We are given a gift of 1 unit of trit if we dock our pod at a station without a ship- found inside the cargo hold of our newb ship.
What is the point of this free gift. Is it meant to aspire us to greater mining heights. Why don't CCP give us something useful selected at random. The database must be cluttered with millions of bits of trit which would only be useful when bought together.
I say- thanks for the gift- not look gift donkey in mouth but lets face it-there's not a lot you can do with 1 piece of trit in fact if you think of something post it here.....and nothing rude.

That is... the entire point.
If it was in fact something of any value, it would be exploited. It's free and you can get howmany you want, and about 100 of them per hour. It's a macro dream to have something useful out of them. That said.. gaining 100 trit an hour? Raising that much suspicion - Nah, don't think so.

Edited by: Warlord Cybrid on 15/05/2008 16:47:21 Why not change it for example...
Gallente pilot docks in pod: Change the prices of insurance and dependingo n insurance is what ull get covered with.
(Insurance pay out allowed us to supply u with the following.)
Basic Insurance coverage:
Atron 2x civilian gats 1x 1mnAB 1x DMG control
And slowly buff that as u go to eventually being...
Platinum insurance yeilds. -the Ship lost- (no items recovered)
This would ease the issue with the insane insurance pay out on T2 ships. and while the fittings would be lost u have something to move in that isn't nothing more than a massive paperweight.
EDIT: This will also be amazing for the upcoming faction wars expansion. I know CCP announced in a dev blog many months ago that it plans to make insurance more well worth it but i have yet to see any follow ups.

Sorry to say this but worst solution ever.
In any game except eve it would work, but here the market is controlled by supply and demand. With a "free" ship out of the blue from no supplier, the demand would drop. Simply buy once and insure and never buy again. Sure thee would be a isk charge but that doesn't help all the manufacturers in eve.
To solve this we might be able to get insurance companies owned by players? sure its advanced and very easy to scam but it could in theory work. But to take away one of the few things run by NPCs, it might be bad. On the other hand the NPC isk insurance sets a certain limit to what a ship can cost in therm of minerals. To take it away is both good and bad. -----------------------------

The ways of the Donkey are hidden to most, if you connect the dots between all the individual trit peices it spells a very large natsy word directed towards Jita.

Even Chribba must have gotten his start with a rookie ship and a single piece of Tritanium. Meditate on that.

The trit is often worth as much as the ship's components are if you try to market it. I myself use my Ibis' to count my ship losses (30 or so the last time I did a search for the things) If I had a credenza in the game I'd place each piece of trit on display as a monument to my ineffectiveness at harming my fellow man in spite of my best efforts.

"Heres a ship that even you can fly. And insides something worth as much as you are." All of above post was formulated wth 100% honesty and 100% sarcasm. Now i only need to get drunk

Player run insurance companies... nice idea if there were some mechanics put in place to prevent scamming, but since the loss of ship is quite common and oh so possible to every player of EVE, there is not really much profit in insurance thus no motivation for anybody to run an insurance company. i do believe insurance companies would be profitable 4 example make a monthly fee then the cost to insure your space ship . so lets say you your self does not own the company of insurance but your corp does then being a corp it will be able to have branches and one of wich may be the insurance ... thus keeping suplie and demand in the picture . then the randoms will come along i want a better insurance benifit... thus saying they may join your corp for cheaper insurance ... it is a twichy subject but shudnt be hard to imply ..... and why the hell cant you insure expensive things like rigs
