Sounds like the Empyrean is going to provide reasonable balance between the factions Ammar/Minmatar vs Gallente/Caldari etc. However it sounds like the game mechanics are evolving such that CCP's long term commitment to bring back the Jove is becoming increasingly unlikely.
How does this update deal with the Jovian faction?

Well, I never want to see the Jove playable, they are supposed to be magnitudes more advanced than our factions, I'd love to see them come into the story at some point but always remain a mysterious, fifth race- perhaps at some point in EVE's future they might end the war which is about to kick off...

Many don't want to see the Jove playable, but not all questions about the Jove involving making them playable.
How about bringing them in as a PVE element? Or putting Jove space / Jove tech in game? How about the Jove as a faction balance?

They could always bring the jove in to reinstate peace or...... they could be on the receiving end of faction warfare, in order for the waring factions to get new tech /skills etc __________________ To POD or to be PODDED that is the Question ? InEVE API verified |

having jove end the war would be a fantastic way to close eve, god forbid it should ever happen...
and CCP NEVER committed themselves to make jove playable or make them a big part of eve. this is partially why there is so much interest on them... nobody knows what's happening - making it unpredictable =)

Hopefully it relegates them back to the status of mythical race that just adds a little twist to the back story. I've been hearing about them for four and a half godamn years and am sick of it.

Unfortunately, as one who is interested in the Jove, I've been harbouring thoughts you're correct.
Not all discussion about the Jove should center on whether they should be playable. CCP has introduced an interesting storyline component here with potential, but the Jove (playable or not) have fallen out of favour it seems.
I'd like a serious discussion about their long term fate with CCP. I'd like to know if introducing them in the first place was a mistake .. or if they truly are in CCP's long term plan. I had heard that they were initially suppose to 'structure tank' which is an interesting idea fraught with balance issues.
I've also long thought of a way to at least reintroduce Jove space while maintaining balance - idea being to add hidden Jove gates, and Jove agents to game that need to be found using astrometrics.
Jove gates are locked by default and require 2 things to activate. A Jove key and Jove faction.
To get Jove faction you need to run missions for the hidden Jove agents (also found by astrometrics) Before you can pick up Jove agent though you need minimum faction by running Jove allie missions (such as the empire neutral Interbus, or Sisters of Eve) sufficiently to get the agent in the first place.
This causes player sufficient enough resistance to get into Jove space so that only those with the appropriate skills and determination can get to Jove space. Also the gates could prohibit certain technologies from crossing over the gate (like related jump technologies, cynos' etc, or Jove tech coming back in reverse).
The thing is that the Jove are or were an interesting element of the game - but while CCP forges ahead with Trinity and Empyrean its not clear they haven't left that thread loose.
I wish they'd either end it or develop it, but not leave people constantly wondering.

Theres potential expansion wise to go the route that the Jove are dead. To me, the Jove are like the Acients from star gate, so highly advanced yet have mostly a hands off approach, save very few instances of interfearance.
Imagine what would happen storywise if it was found the Jove had finally bought the farm and that it was no impossible, admittedly highly difficult, to enter Jove space? Find ruins, adrift ships, ships on defensive autopilot forever ordered to protect the dead empire. It would be the perfect way to introduce concepts like T3 equipment and ships, let the devs have a way to make a elaberate storyline to how the Jove finally surrendered to their fate and so on.
It could also be a way to introduce a new 5th race that, unlike the Jove, could eventually become playable. What was that one race that the Jove were supposively sheilding us from? -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:
Players who post are like stars, there are bright ones and those who are dim.

I just want to see a Jove Titan before I die.
Failing that, 10-20 Jove BS randomly traveling from one end of the galaxy to another, shooting at anyone who gets too close, would work. ------ "When in doubt, aim for the crotch." "There's no problem that the application of suitable firepower cannot fix."

I think having access to the Jove empire would make for a very good reward to those who run missions non stop. Perhaps make the "Jove Empire" semi-Role Play (since im guessing that's where the GMs are 90% of the time) and depending on what you do or say you could get kicked out and hunted down, or become a high ranking official in their military and offer any kind of help to stop the jove disease. After all they have not had anyone outside of Jove try and come up with a way to cure them. (Use of researching skills maybe?)
But if CCP decides to keep Jove completely NPC without agents, I think they could be used for a very interesting idea for the next installment of eve. Lets say the war in empire is just about to climax, then the Jove burst out of nowhere, driven insane from some kind of side affect of the Jove disease, and begins to attack all empire ships (contested). The four empires could sign a mutual Non-Aggression-Pact, and force the Joves back into there space. CCP just needs to Nerf the Jove ships to make them hard, not impossible, to kill. make it so its assumed that 4 regular ships can take out 1 Jove, or something along those lines.

Considering the attacks against concord and them beingpowerless during "the day" The Jovians could replaced concord as the main policing force. Stop all this silly psuedo war that going on.

The Jove are a powerful, important part of the EVE backstory, but there are no specific plans currently to introduce Jove PCs, NPCs, or additional meaningful Jove tech into the game. The potential exists that in the future there will come a time when the Jove will come on to the EVE stage, but for now, that remains just a potential, not a plan.

As long as the Jove are kept unplayable, rarely encountered, and little known of their ways it will keep some people interested in them. We don't need to have things finitely explained in EVE with set in stone facts as to whats happening in everything. Let them stay as a wild card in EVE where if you do happen to encounter them you know your day just got very interesting. |
