Okay, so I'm totally pumped for this new expansion. Despite some criticism of CCP in past threads, I find it very nice at what rate they manage to pump out such big expansion packs :) I am looking forward to popping some Caldari noobs, but really, I've read everything I can about it and I'm still really confused.
1. When you sign up for a faction, do the other factions shoot you while you're in their space? 2. You can only assign yourself to a faction at the corp level, right? And different corps in an alliance can choose different factions? And if your corp goes, say, Caldari, and you want to fight for Gallente, can you go out and solo complexes/whatever anyway? 3. Will these complexes/missions be in 0.0, or only in empire/lowsec?

From what i understand, fighting will actually take place in highsec. It will be a largely King of the Hill type fighting, and random hide/seek with the objectives sometimes. Bonuses given out for NPC kills (in forms of loot/such... From what I understand there will be random NPC fleets in the area), as well as player kills (ranking system/pay? im not so sure on this one). I am also hoping that the area, because it is deadspace, will be more or less inaccessible to loot theifs, because we all hate those.
On the bright side, MWD work \o/

Ah, so that defeats the purpose of the expansion pack for what like, half the people playing the game? :( Blows.

Yes, the largest ones with the most people are. It defeats the purpose because you can't participate unless you leave your alliance/can't choose which faction you want to fight for. And if your alliance doesn't even want to do it, that's another thing too.

Isnt factional warfare just to help mission runners and other such people get into PVP?

I think you may have mis-interpreted my post, only the first bit was aimed in your direction, the rest at the newly -10'd CCP.
But yup, it really does defeat the purpose of the whole thing, basically preventing thousands of people from accessing new content because they may not want to leave their corporation and/or alliance. I'll just stick with shooting the occasional person in low sec it seems. -----

Even if so, everyone will want to play it.

Understandable, but aren't some people assuming its a big expansion for everybody? If it is just an aid for the PvE'rs then some people will be upset to be left out when its not really about that.
That didnt quite come out right but I hope you know what I mean.

Edited by: Jakke Logan on 16/05/2008 02:54:41 Seems to me that an expansion with such a narrow focus, based basically on trying to push people into a playstyle they don't already want to be in is going to fail by design.
In a sandbox game, people are going to play what they want to play. If you, as Devs don't like that, tough. You aren't going to change it unless you shift the paradigm to the point that it becomes so attractive that what they are currently doing makes no sense.
Which fundamentally changes the game.
Which then upsets lots of people.
What needs to be accepted is that there is a portion of this game, like all others, who will NEVER want to pvp no matter what.
This is fine. They still face their risks.
Realizing that reality, if you WANT to enhance pvp, focus on the pvp'ers. Which means NOT leaving out most of your pvp'ers. Which this completely ludicrous expansion does.
Faction warfare should have been for the pvp'ers. The fact that it isn't, makes it irrelevant.

Again, this is going to **** off a lot of people. If we have waited 6 months for an expansion and get NOTHING out of it, why should you and CCP expect us to LIKE it?
This is a very bad management move.
As I said, if there is another half of this expansion, CCP needs to be coming forth IMMEDIATELY as a form of damage control.

oh lol, duh yes there is more to the expansion :P but don't cry if it's only the rest of the graphics improvements and new ships, plus the allaince warfare change might be coming, you know the whole taking POS out of the SOV and making it based on stargates.

There have been quite a bit of content put into past expansions which excluded a good portion of the playerbase. I guess it is your turn now. Suck it up...it is Darwinism and EvE is such a hash cold place...blah bleh blah

Which will encourage empire carebears to engage in FW pvp in what way?
Fact of the matter is that you can't get people to change their playstyles unless you force them to. Forced playstyle changes in MMO changes generally lead to mass subscriber losses (see: Star Wars Galaxies).
Not saying that FW forces anyone to change. It doesn't. It just doesn't reward current pvp'ers, it excludes them. And it really doesn't offer current non pvp'ers any real reason to change their playstyle. Which means they won't.
Which will render the system largely unused. Which makes this expansion a complete 100% waste of effort.
I still believe that involving alliances into the empire wars is the answer. The bridge to pvp should be the bridge to 0.0, which means the alliances. Get the empire would be pvp'ers into fighting alongside powerful 0.0 alliances in faction warfare, you develop the relationships that get those players into 0.0 alliances.
The system as currently planned does nothing like that. It basically just creates more griefer victims.

I think "Red and Blue" demonstrated that Empire players will PvP as long as they don't have to sit at a gate for 6 hours, take orders from some FC who lives in mom's basement or have to jump into a large, unbeatable gatecamp to get anywhere.
So stop whining. After all, it isn't like they are taking away your form of PvP and the sun will still rise in the morning.

Alliances can't join a faction? Short sightedness by CCP? Every player in major alliances have more than one account, CCP is just forcing them to play factional warfare with their alt instead of their main. That's pretty lame.

your missing the point, you won't be able to fight for space for yourself and a faction.
you either fight for space in 0.0 or in lowsec with a faction.
Besides the timer thing? same as the changes coming to allaince warfare.
allaince warfare and factional warfare are two separate things, and they should be.

if they allowed large alliances to join the factions, wouldnt it just make low sec more like 0.0 space? people are complaining that it is excluding large alliances and is only for new pvp'ers or carebears, but think about it, 0.0 alliances already fight for territory in large ass fleet battles, if allowing them to fight in the factional warfare in lowsec also, it would just be turning low sec space into more 0.0 battlegrounds with large fleets and highly experienced veterans, which is gona exclude new pvp'ers who obviously cant compete, that my friends is also short sighted
