Edited by: Aerelas on 16/05/2008 08:17:05 So, I have been surfing the forums regarding the marauders and how they are to be fitted and/or used in PVP. It seems (this is my opinion from reading the post that I have found) as if they are more or less a pure mission-ship, so my question is: Are marauders used in PVP and are they any good at that?
I know that this is a some what subjective thing û the entire what-ship-you-like-and-fittings-to-that-ship û but I still would like to hear what you guys have to say about this.
IÆm going for a Paladin now and I want to make the most of it and thus posting this so that I can get as much input as possible.

They hit hard, and tank like a mofo, but if your 'victim' have a cosmetic mirror for plucking their eyebrows, and they flash it in your direction...; poof goes the lock.

Can they fit 4 (or less, but at least 1) heavy neut? I heard all marauders had grid problems.

this, I spent around 10 hrs getting used to kitsue setups (its a frig that jammes) and as everybody was trying out the new t2 bs I could easily jam 3 or even 4 at once, pritty much permantly, if they got a lock though.... poof :P

Agreed the lock is terrible however after some experimentation yesterday on SISI... i was being permajammed by scorps falcs and everything else.. I tried a setup with 2 radar ECCMs and a large EMP Smartbomb.
Was pretty unjammable after that and ecm drones where popping left right and center
tanks like an absolute bastard even without the most basic faction gear which improves teh setup immensely
Dps is pretty huge too and 1500 wrecking shots r Uber!
4 x Mega Pulse II 1x Emp Smartie 2 x Med Nos
Mids is Cap booster Cap recharger + more cap mods or ECCM or Web or wateva ur flavor is
Lows: 2x LAR II 2 x EANMII 1x DCUII and 1 x Powerdiagnostics II 1x Heatsink II
Rigs 2x aux nano pump II
Capacitor was lasting fine with Booster support and Nos
(now wheres my spare billions so i can pvp in this on Tranq)

Dps is same as abaddon (actually less unless ya have marauder 5). "1500 wreckings" but from 4 guns - abaddon can 2x wreck for 750 at the time and get exactly same results.
Tank is sub-par to that of kronos (1 less rig slot), comparable to 2x LAR abaddon. If you play with officer LARs and stuff - every ship can be made to tank over 2000dps be it marauder or t1 geddon.
True it has nice cargohold for cap charges, so in 1v1 active tank vs active tank it might win but then there are ECM problems (need to patch with ECCM = 3mids left). Also compared to abaddon its somewhat easier to run guns + dual lar.
But as soon as you leave 1v1 and go for 2v2 or larger any plated BS is better. As paladin lacks plate... even abaddon/geddon is better.
For me its good ship for arranged fights - but for random PVP as its on TQ its quite possible you will be on recieving end, especially when almost all gangs have falcon.
To sum up: ill never use marauder in PVP because normal BS can do same work and if it pops insurance works its magic.

Did you miss "warp disruptor" module? Or is it gang fit? If gang read my part above - 2x BS and you are smoked :) Also cap rechargers for pvp? Uhhhhh....

Depends, if it actually get the apoc range bonus when they boost the other bs, well it just may be worth the isk. ***The EVE servers and their patches*** |

wouldn't a nightmare be way better for pvp? i mean it also doesn't cost more and is a bit more sp friendly.

The Paladin makes a ridiculously good fleet sniper. It is about 25%-33% more effective than the best possible tech1 battleship fits you can come up with.
However, for the price of one Paladin, you can field four normal battleships; and, if there's only one or two of them in a fleet, they are just making it easier for the to decide primaries. These are the two big drawbacks.

needs amarr bs and caldari bs, gunnery and shield tanking, (if you come from a caldari background you have to learn the gunnery skills (can vary widely here, or from amarr the shield tanking skills)
compared to training amarr bs, marauders, gunnery and armor tanking. (rather straight train for an amarr player, all skills trained useful for any less expensive amarr bs)
I would say about the same amount of time, unless you want to create a very specialized alt
I personally would rather take a geddon out pvping

Pretty much. Personally, I don't think marauders and pvp mix that well, unless you use it as bait or load it up with eccm and fly with a gang. Its really just a big, expensive, please shoot me sign.
