My first post on CAOD for about a year. I'm sorry , but I never knew DarkElf.
His friends and family will remember him as who he really is without a name on the station. But I wouldn't personally want to be remembered as "the guy whose name people bicker about should be the name of some station".

Tho u have the right to name the station what u like..
Keeping the staion's name in memorial of someone who tragicly lost his life would give your victory a little more class...
...then again this game is filling up with a-holes quicker than a fat kid on pizza.... so class is something of a rareity these days..
r.i.p dark elf..and condolences to those who knew the guy
This is not disrespect, this is life moving on for those still enjoying it. |

Quite a few outposts these days were either constructed or renamed as memorials to fallen players, but not all of them still retain the name. H8 in Paragon Soul for Smoske is still named as such today, for example, but the OOYZ station in Feythabolis has since lost its dedication to Draccous, a former corpmate of mine nonetheless. All in all, though, it's not like the gesture loses all of its meaning when the owners of the station change and a few words and letters happen to get shuffled around. Next time, just send an evemail instead of stirring up **** on the forums. --------------------------------------------

Originally by: Brother Welcome I just want to petition the new owners to rename that outpost back to Dark Elf Memorial.
GF and all, but it's cool to respect the history of EVE.
Please don't add any political discussions, bait, trolls, here.
Thank you :)
Brother Welcome -A BRUCE pilot.
IMHO. If this R/L Person had so much "importance to your alliance." Then it was your Alliances obligation to hold on to that outpost as a place to Honor him.
If you lost the System and sovereignty or Fled from it. Nobody to blame but yourself and the Alliance. You lost it! take it back.
If you truly wish CCP and the community to Honor this individual. Start a Thread asking CCP to create a dynamic in game to do so.
Everyone has something that inspires their esprit de corps for their alliance and their said purpose. But to be honest this is just silly expecting the eve community to remember some unknown entity.
You lost it, It's their System and station now. Just like in real life.
If I was to think about an entity to be remembered. I say reward the alliances and leaders that have held together for 4+ years holding territory and still continuing their existence.
In no way was this post intended to disrespect a memory of a friend and personality you knew in this game. we have all met some awesome people and spent copious amounts of laughter, grief, carnage and accomplishments in this "entertainment package"
If CCP was to do a memorial. how best could that person be remembered?
How about... Creating that person as a Factional Officer in the Pirate or Navy of a given faction.
If a Object or an outpost was made or officially named in space. I could think of only a couple personalities in this game that have made a huge impact on this game as a whole.
Bob, Goons, etc. etc. etc.
SirMolle, Tiller, and of Course my favorites Darth Solo and Darkness for allowing me to have so much NANO'd Mayhem Fun!
OPINIONS vary.

During all these years more players died than there were outposts build. And its nice to remember of honor them with their names for stations. But it shouldn't last forever since people need to move on and at a point you must let go. You can request to keep the name of the station to the owners but I don't feel they have to be obligated to honor their wishes. Having a fight because of using the name of a dead person for a station is pointless and unnecessary IMHO. Personally I'm disgusted to see these kind of issues are being used for in game political reasons.

You know, since I got banned for something related to a players irl death a while before DE died, me and DE actually spoke about "what if one of us died" and I gotta tell you, DE wouldn't have given a **** what you call this station.
Both me and him agreed, random people sulking for people who died irl they didn't know is bull****, and tbh some sort of ****** up "cool" thing to do for many.
I miss Dark Elf, but if he could communicate to us trough the great beyond he'd probably be flaming half the people who apparrantly "miss" him without ever having known him.
The memory of lost friends are kept as just that, memories, not pixels in space, I certainly don't need a godamn station to remind myself that I miss talking to him.

^ this.
PL conquered the station, if you need a station to remind you of someone who you knew, then you've got bigger issues than this game.
Maybe we're recruiting, I don't know, spam eve-mails to Daniel Zorg, and go into a coma for a week. |

I don't have any problem with the station name change. Who owns it--names it.
I knew DE. He made me laugh. He taught me a lot about the game. I play EvE with him in mind every time I decloak on some unsuspecting target.
Vile Rat's earlier comments in this thread prompted my response. Along with a year of random stupidity regarding DE spouting from random Goon/Goon alts when they happened to see Veto pilots in local.
My comments stand. Not that it matters in the grand scheme of internet spaceships.

It's not disrespecting someone to change the name of a station in an internet spaceship game that might be a remembrance of them. Learn to separate RL and a ******* game and you'll have a much better life.
The only disrespect to Paul being shown here is by the people that feel this station is the only thing that attests to who he was ingame, and not the memory of him and the friendships he had.

The station name is un-important to me, i will name it whatever i want, or whatever shamis wants me to name it :)
And if i did decide to honor the memory of a fallen capsuleer, and name the station after him, it won't be Dark Elf, as i didn't know him... it would be a fellow BOS member who is no longer with us.
So either way, untill it changes hands again ( which will be soon ) i suggest you fire ur petittions some other direction.

If anyone would like to "honor" DE's memory go out and grief someone, then shout "in the name of DE I ruin your gaming expirience!"
That would have made him smile
