I tried to create a corp and I get the message that Corp name is already in use, but after checking there is no corporation with the same name. I tried having a ticker that is also unique and still the same lame message I get that corp name is already in use.
Anyone knows about this bug? any way around it rather than waiting 2 weeks for a GM to respond to my petition?

I believe, if a character has the name that you want for your corp, you can't use that name as a corp name.

Be sure to check your log. I saw something like this when I was trying to create a Corp, and it was something simple, such as the error, "Corp Ticker" already taken which wasn't showing up because a window was hiding it.
I think I changed the Ticker and was able to get it to work.
Just an idea.

Omg is true, there is a char named the same. That's so stupid arghhh! Especially since it's been in an NPC corp for 4 and half years.
CCP CLEAN CHARS THAT HAS LESS THAN 1 MIL SP AND BEEN NOT LOGGED IN FOR OVER 1 YEAR!!!!!

It's also important to note that deceased corp names are never removed from the database. Once they're used they can never be used again. Same goes for alliances.

this cant be true, as 2 years ago i closed dark materials then remaded the corp a few months ago. same name.

Problem here, how do you know it hasnt logged in in 4 years and only has under 1 million SP?
I do sympathise with your problem though, that must suck. Put all that thought into this for it to be wasted so easily. Choose a new name - and hope that it is unique :)

I get the feeling some celebrity/novelty names are purposefully created and abandoned specifically so no one can use those names for stupid reasons (Eg: we don't want "Chuck Norris" flying around spamming roundhouse kicks in local everywhere he goes). And then of course there are forum alts.

Usually, if someone has NO standings other than the +10 from the starting agent, that's one sign.

No, that's usually seen on macro miners or isk farmers.
Yesterday I saw a 2004 char with only the tutorial standing and of course he was piloting a hulk.

I'm pretty sure you can re-use alliances name since these get whiped if you miss a bill.
As for characters and corporations mixing that's just bad programming.

I have no idea about alliances, but when a corp closes, it's name will change to "Corp Name (Closed)" and you'll be able to use the name again.

I can confirm this isnt true.
Malum Crusis was closed at some point and i recreated the corp after i returned from my break.
Exact same name, exact same ticker.

This is quite an issue, but one with a fix if your willing to compromise. Just add a full stop the end of your corp name.
