Now as most of you know in the trailer for eve they are using texture maps that are about 10 times the size as the ones used in game.
Also if you have the eve art book you know that CCP has crazy high rez models for trintiy that weren't put in game yet, as well computers can't support it yet :)
However this got me thinking for some reason...
you all know how one player in your alliance can be running trinity while using fraps for a fleet right? while the rest of us guys keep our graphics low for the fps and lag and such.
Well... what if the alliance tournament worked the same way?
with the camera team using clients that are running in DX10, or at least with the super high rez texture maps? I know CCP has OMG powerful computers that can run this stuff, so use that for the recording!
what do you guys think?

Kind of a waste of time I think. Ideally sure, it'd look better if you were sitting at the computer there watching. However, they compress the image to stream it over the net, so you lose it all anyway.
Unless they decide to sell DVDs (or blue rays!) of the uncompressed footage next time, then I don't think anyone will notice the difference, except the folks in the studio. =D

aww damn, good point...
Well they released a DvD last time... a small one at least..
Maybe if CCP just make one big epic movie out of the best fights with the client? or?
...
err
damn it your point is too hard to contradict :P

They could record the fight in another format, like a replay as fps and rts games do (quake 2 for example). They'd need to record ships' heading, speed, who attacked whom and who blew up, some other stuff. And then people could download it, it's gonna be less than 1MB, and watch it with high settings.

I got an idea for the tournament too:
evolve from the year 2006 and allow rigs in the tournament. does no one else find it mildly stupid that rigs aren't allowed?

People complain that logistics make for boring fights already. Do you think that adding rigs will make for better fights? I could be mistaken but I don't see balance between tanking and damage rigs, adding rigs greatly favors heavier tanks and that seems contrary to what everyone wants to see.
I won't argue that in "real pvp" rigs are a constant. I don't think that means they have to be allowed in the tournament.

What does that make the PvP tournament then? An exhibition of the dumbest most outlandish PvP tactics that work? A Tier 3 battleship that tanks less damage than a command ship is ********. It's a PvP tournament, and with the fitting restrictions that are put on it, it becomes stupid. As long as these restrictions are put on the tournament, it will never be actually fun to fight in.
For example, Mercenary Coalition's 3 Marauder-class battleships losing to 7 ships or so that should never have beaten them? Talk about CCP screwing the alliances over, they put so much ISK on the field to fight in this tournament and are unable to actually protect themselves. Logistics are far different than rigs my friend, far far different. A restriction on T2 rigs makes sense, but T1 rigs don't make your ship unbeatable, it just takes advantage of it's potential.

trust me, this is very unlikely . mostly this would require major changes to the game client . and the machines are put under enough strain as it is to run eve at a decent frame rate *and* stream video to the video mixer without falling over since these are modest spec platforms designed to do a specific job consistently .
what you are suggesting is a hell of a lot of work for a free broadcast .
note: the textures used in the trailer were also the same resolution as those from in game .

He might be talking about the CG at the end of the EA trailer, which was definitely entailed a lot more than improved textures. Either way he's wrong.

Record with fraps.
convert to MP4 or whutever, compress and don't bother streaming just let it be downloadable instead. Then if its an hour long or so, it will be about 600 MB
