Inspired by this, I've decided to see if I can make my bio worth 1 billion(!) isk.
It's simple. At 12-point font, there are 1,000 characters worth of text available in my bio. To rent one character costs 1 million isk per month.
To rent one or more characters, simply EVE-mail me your message or post it here, along with any additional details (desired font color, url link, or whatever you come up with) and send the appropriate payment (a space counts as a character!). Your character(s) will then appear in my bio until July 1 (that's right, get in now, and I'll throw in the rest of May's rent!)
And remember, it only takes 1 character to link a url!
On July 1, you'll be able to renew you character(s)'s subscription at the same rate if you like.
Please keep entries EVE-appropriate, anything that gets me warned will be removed without refund.

All right, I'll grant the negativity so far is fair. I'm sure most people look at this attempt and think "huh, here's a societal leech with an unimaginative attempt to enrich themselves at the expense of many on a premise that's already been done."
Fair enough. But though it may not seem so, I did put more than a little thought into this. At first I thought "Hey, the million-isk bio, just like that website!" Then it occurred to me that anyone with 51,000 isk could inform the world that "calipha takes it in the bum from massive gorillas."
I believe my internet dignity is worth slightly more than 51,000 isk, and the "100 million-isk bio" or "500 million-isk bio" just doesn't have quite the same ring to it.
I also thought about making the purchased spaces permanent, but what if I'm playing EVE 3 years from now? I am certainly facing diminishing returns on the gorilla-bum-sodomy front.
At 1m each, the characters are expensive enough that people are forced to think about what they want to put in the bio and be creative about it, but inexpensive enough as to be relatively insignificant to say, the average year-old character, which I consider myself (I have a decent amount of assets, but am by no means a multi-billionaire, like so many I read about on these forums!).
So the characters are 1m each and I'm charging rent. Frankly I'm less interested in actually having the money as I am in the bio being worth 1 billion isk. I would also accept donations to some EVE community website or other equally charitable cause (with proof).
Perhaps I could extend the value further by extending the rent period to 6 months? A full year? If anyone has any ideas or constructive criticism, my ear is open!

Isn't this the eve version of that 1 million dollar website that has something just like this, except it actually worked for the guy who thought of it?

The originality wears off. In the beginning, it was the same with red paperclip. But then you see a thread pop up every odd month about someone who wants to go from 1 piece of tritanium to something like a friggin mothership, and you know what, it gets really, really boring and unoriginal.

I hear you Grarr. I thought I might be the first person to have tried this in EVE, and I might be, but you're correct, a little originality goes a long way. Guess I'll have to hit the drawing board and come back with something more worthwhile. Thanks for posting constructively.

This is a good idea. a bit overpriced... but my imagination can come up with great applications for this.
think: those companies that pay you to put big window sticker on the back of your car and drive around a certain amount of miles a month.
