If people were downvoted, the ones who would be would take it as a badge of honor. The lowest negative rating, the greatest hero - just like security ratings. I'm red. I'm bad.
What works the best, but you can't get your jollies from, is to just pass up idiotic posts. Inactivity is the best downvote. It fades into oblivion on the post listings. Ignore ignorance.
People who feel the need to poke someone in the eye with a sharp stick just because they can are no better than the fools they're poking. So, it can't be honestly said the vicious responses are there to be productive.
Post good posts. Pass up bad ones. Let the "forum mechanics" handle the dredge. Useful and interesting posts will be at the top of the list. Idiotic posts will fade into obscurity where they belong.
Don't feed the troll and it will go away. |

The absence of a dislike features upsets the natural order of things. There shouldn't be a like without a dislike, its all about the Yin and the Yang. This is a (game based)community forum not a social networking site nor a news site, people should have consequences for posting crap. A rep system could also be used as a way of moderation, if your rep score is low enough you then have a longer delay on when you can post again or restrict you from certain boards.
