Just wondering what some people think is low SP / easy to fly t1 frigs to play around with teaching new players in EVE to pvp with? Trying to go for simple things that can be fit with engi5/elec5 and as little minimal skill as possible.
Im thinking
1.Rifter 2.Kestrel
anyone else have any follow ups? Im thinking the rifter might be a bit more skill intensive as compared to the kessy.

Merlin Tackler is nice. Throw a sensor booster and afterburner on there and its a decent little thing. |

The kestrel is absolutely fantastic as a frigate pvp-ship, very versatile and you can pretty much do anything you want with it as far as missiles go. Def. recommended.

Kestral = Gank Punisher = Tank Rifter = Pwnmobile
Other then that not to familier with a lot of the other ones. Merlin is a lot tankier then the Kestral but does a lot less damage.

The Executioner and Atron also make decent practice for 'Ceptors or nano-ships in general. Just get a pair of guns, an AB or MWD, a warp scrambler/disruptor, and fit your lows for speed and/or cap stability. You get a decent tackler and a slew of replacements for dirt cheap, learn the ropes of tackling, and actually contribute to gang fights. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

Very good idea! would work getting them to learn and understand a tacklers role early on and then by then they should be able to move up to a more decent setup. The big problem i am having is the fact im sitting with almost 18x more SP's than they do and its causing a problem when i suggest a fit.

Pending on how well you know them but you could ask them for there limited use API Keys to upload there skills into EFT Just a thought not sure if they would give this to you or not as I don't know if you know them in real life or whatever.

One of the ships that come in useful to use is a Griffon, helps in training newbs in ewar.

Make a duplicate of your profile in EFT and reduce pretty much all your skills to L3 or so. If you can still make stuff fit and run as cap-stably as you'd like, sorted. And really, people with god-awful fitting skills should hardly be surprised if they can't fit their ships for crap - "work on your support skills first" should probably be the first lesson anyone should learn...

Why not use them all? A Kestrel-Vigil gang fighting a Maulus-Incursus gang would be pretty interesting. How about a Rifter versus a Punisher? Or within one ship class try different setups: gank Punisher versus tank Punisher versus nos/neut Punisher. At the very least new players should play with:
Rifter Punisher Incursus Tristan Kestrel Griffin Maulus Crucifier Executioner Atron Slasher Condor Imicus (for the drones)

I'd say the list is pretty exhaustive. For the most part the frigates are representative of the race's ships as a whole, just in a small package. Minimum SP and investment can tell you if you actually like the idea of a certain race and how it's played or not. If you think you might like ECM, the griffin can effectively support a small frigate gang against another small frigate gang. The Kestral will introduce you to the Caldari missile ethos, with all it's flaws and benefits. The Punisher is a typical example of Ammarrain design - laser gank and sturdy tank, just rarely both at the same time.
In the end, it doesn't matter WHICH of the ships your gang chooses. A single level 4 mission can bankroll a dozen t1 fitted frigates, and given how cheap it is to partake in corporate frigate combat, I don't know why more corps don't have live fire frigate exercies. Most corps throw newbies into a suicide tackler role and drag them into combat operations where their life expectancy is measured in the span of lock times - a vital role but not exactly one that will endow a friendly outlook on PVP in general.
During the complete newbie phase a player can easily switch races as the figure out which parts of Eve intrigue them. At 18 million SP invested in Caldari I find I get more enjoyment flying t1 cruisers and frigs of other races, but since I don't have sufficient SP invested in them you'll probably not see me intentionally getting into a fight in a non caldari ship for quite awhile.
