I seem to have a problem with my faction standings.
I've done a great deal of gallentian missions and had a nice standing with them and minmatar. My standing vs caldari and amarr was low but not that bad butt still, I don't like minus standing. So I started doing missions for caldari and amarr to get those standings back up again. After doing a bunch of missions for caldari and amarr I noticed my gallentian and minmatar standings drop (like i thought). Butt now I'm seeing some very bad things in my faction standings. I'm dropping faster standings for factions than gaining them resulting in bad standings for all factions 
Is there a way to get nice standings for all empire factions?

not that i know of. the storyline missions give good standing to 2 empires whilest killing ur standing with 2 others. also in some missions u have to go against ships beloning to an empire which also give quite the bit of standing loss i suggest u decline those.
that should be about all.

I my world there should be a way to run missions so you all in all would raise your standing with all 4 major factions. In truth they have little in common, but I really don't see why you can't run some form of simply helpfull missions. A kind of mission where you don't set out to kill another faction, that's what the upcoming FW is about, but a line of missions where you help uphold the law for instance, I see loads of criminals roaming empire space, and as a Pod pilot I can make a diffrence there, benefitting the citizen of that system with high SEcurety in space between the belt, and that really shouldn't have a negative effect on say Caldari or Amarr when I purge a Blood raider outpost, nor when I'm transporting Oxygen to strugling stations. Fix this devs...

Not nice standings, and it is a PITA to do, but you can get it to around 2-3.0 faction standing i think. I stopped with it just having them all in positive (Cal state 1.47/ Min 1.05/ Gal0.81/ amarr 0.48 all flat no skills added).
The problem is the higher your standing the greater both positive and negative hits become. You have to run missions for one till you get a storyline then go to the faction that they don't like but not the one they like the least. Say run Cal state then hit Min. Then Gal and Amarr , So on till you get them all to positive and the lvl you can live with:) What you are doing is the positive gain you got from storyline is just a bit more than the negative loss is to the others so in effect you are running around gaining a very few % standing gains per each time you hit all 4 factions. And you cant get very high with all, after a point the losses cant be offset by the gains.
With mine above i can with my social skills start on lvl 2 missions with any faction and i was happy with that. Lot of trouble and cant ever take any missions against faction ships or do anymore story lines unless you continue the running all over the game.
SO unless you just want to keep them open for later pick one faction and just do missions for them and the other that gets along with them. You will get better standing with those 2 factions get the good rewards for storyline missions, and never have to worry about what missions you have to refuse.
With FW coming, all this may be changed also, so no telling:)

Someone told me awhile back that if you do storyline missions with the Sisters of Eve or Interbus, that your faction standing with each of the major races will increase with successful completion of the mission. I have not personally tried it myself, but it might be worth some investigation if you're worried about Amarr and Caldari standings. 
Alternatively, just pick a race and train your diplomacy up to keep from being hated completely by the other races.

Interbus no longer works, but Sisters of Eve is a good option there.
Avoid combat missions against Caldari and Amarr and Gallente and Minmatar will go up very fast.
Amarr and Caldari will drop slightly below zero, but nothing serious. It'll stop dropping at -0.25 and -0.50 respectively while Gallente goes all the way up to 8.00.
