I want to create an alt for salvaging, in the quickest way possible.
Not sure on the best ship Race to use for cargo space in their Destroyer for example. But the best race to have all the skills I need fastest from start would be beneficial.
Main item skills to get to use would be Destroyers, Salvager & Tractor Beams.
To use those 3 things you need: Salvaging L1 Survey L3 Mechanic L3 Electronics L1 Science L4 Spaceship Command L3
So the question is, does anyone know what race to start as would get me to these quickest?
Thanks,

To answer the question of which race it's definitely Minmatar. Their destroyer is the best, and if you want to bump it up a little, the Hurricane is the best BC for salvaging as well.

Thanks for that link. :)
Had an initial go, got the bigger skills, L4 Science and Mech L3, as Minmatar. Char ID: 112133201121
So to get the remaining skills, the main one being Spaceship command, which'd take about 24 hours, and Survey L3, would take about another 9 or 10 hours.
Unless anyone knows of a better starter char?

If you're going to do this, you might want to consider training for a Mammoth as well and make yourself a light hauling alt. Can be surprisingly useful, you can just make private courier contracts for any crap you want to move around. And don't forget tractor beams, soooo useful. I think you can get a Caldari Engineer up to flying a Mammoth with T2 hull and shield ugrades (so you can actually fit a halfway decent buffer tank as well as T2 cargo expanders), plus salvaging and tractor beams, in about a week - a bit longer than your original plan, but not so long that it's going to eat into your main's training time too horrendously.
Also, train Salvaging to at least 3, preferably 4 - for a little extra time spent, it'll speed up salvaging large fields a hell of a lot.

I disagree - at least with the first bit; the Gallente Catalyst has the same high slots, the speed is good enough and the cargo hold can be bigger (as it has 3 lowslots). The Coercer might even be better, but one midslot is a bit limiting - you may find cap a problem if using AB and tractors (I usually fit a cap battery), and 4 expanders will make it slow.
If you want to step up to a BC, you've only wasted a few hours on training Gallente frig 3.
I might do this; follow the suggestion, get a Minmatar character with minnie frig IV to start with, and immediately start training Gallente frigate to 3. The Destroyers and BC skills work for either. ---------------------------------------------- "Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent."

Actually, if you're only going for Destroyers, Science 4 (for tractor beams) is going to be the most annoying skill to train for; your best bet will probably be picking whatever character gives you that as a freebie, pumping your Perception up and training whatever ship command skills you want quickly.
My suggestion is to get EveHQ and play around with the character goalseek utility; it will give you an absolutely indisputable answer as to what build will get you to such-and-such a bundle of skills as fast as possible.

If only it didn't take so bleeding long to run, someone ought to write a nice AI algorithm for it (I am too lazy )
Pretty sound logic though, since level 4 is painful compared to the little levels you will need in other areas.

That's exactly what I did. See the char ref above.

Will take a look at EveHQ. :)

It came out as what I chose anyways. ;) lol
Minmatar > Sebiestor > Rebels > Industry > Engineer.
