EOE soon to be AWOL
Due to a technicality in the US laws of EOE, smoking preference is not listed under descrimination.

It's nice to see that some are taking the stance that tobacco is a chemically addictive drug that is about as legit as any other drug.

As someone that is absolutely against smoking, I find that, um... very concerning actually.
Ban smoking in the workplace, in public places, and please, please, please find some way to prosecute people who smoke around children, but if people want to give themselves cancer and stink while they are at it, then it's up to them.
What will be the next thing they decide they don't like and will refuse you employment because of it? - Originally by: Kyrall Pfft antivirus? Real men use a hard drive tank.

Well, if pot smokers aren't allowed to get jobs, then why should tobacco smokers?

ROFL! Sounds like this would cause quite a stir!
I'd say that if people wanna take their money, roll it up and burn it (which is effectively what they're doing by smoking) and seriously annoy and ruin-the-health-of everyone around them, then they shouldn't be allowed to do it anywhere near anyone else. Smoking in your own home/garden/car ONLY. Go cough up your lungs where we can't see you.
Smoking ban in UK = good. The fact that you still get a face full of smoke walking into and out of bars/pubs/clubs is bad. Also people who just smoke near people, even if it's outside - the smoke doesn't just go straight up, you still cause passive smoking at bus stops or walking down the street at the same speed as me but two steps ahead....

I'm a smoker and I don't have a issue with it. This is already implement at the jails/prison (can't smoke for atleast 6 months.)
Also you can't smoke to get into the military. You can smoke after you pass basic though.
I'm all for reducing the areas where a smoker can smoke. I know it's a nasty habit and one I wish I'd never started. I do my best to keep it away from kids, I don't even want them seeing me do it because if I see them a decade later with a cigarrette in their mouth I know it's my fault. Even around my friends I hang waaaaaaaay outside the group to smoke and I make sure I'm downwind.
The only thing that makes smoking legal is the fact the the government has it's hand in the cookie jar. And yes it is very addicting. I know I have to stop but it's far easier said than done.

EDIT: I'm sure all the people who are hopelessly addicted will have a problem with this, but meh.
Tobacco is not addictive, it is the nicotine which is in cigarettes that is.
As to the other posts, it is against US law to kill yourself, yet habits, physical means of causing you bodily harm and bad health for the most part-is still legal primarily because as stated above, Uncle Sam has his hand in the cookie jar.
Ironic? Absolutely.

Man this is great! i hope they deny overweight people from getting a job next.
i mean they are killing themselves and setting a bad example for kids. being fat is NOT ok! it can kill you, give you diabetes, heart disease, deadly clots, and not to mention its very unattractive. the list goes on people!
i think they are going a step in the right direction really. just have a company hired doctor give the applicants a body mass test, some blood work, and a waist measurement. maybe even a handy chart like if your 72 inches (184 Cm) you cant weigh more then 175 lbs (79 Kg).
When people start thinking they can decided how other people should live their lives, there is a problem. yes decide what they allowed to do on company property or while they are on company time. what they do during there personal and social life is there own ******* business.
