No Insurance on willful acts when death is certain is such a sticky topic.
CCP and many players like/love the idea that if given enough incentives you can kill whoever, whenever, were ever you like. Personally I see some attraction to this even though I've been a victim.
The issue I see is the punishment is not much of an issue. Where as something as small as... Concord not only kills your ship, but pods you to, sounds like acceptable terms, but is still not much if a "punishment" for acts of criminal activity.
I'd honestly believe something more along the lines of if you willfully destroy a ship without being agressed first, your Global Countdown lasts 6 hours instead of 15 minutes, would be more acceptable. That way if you really wanted to you still could, but you're stuck in lowsec for the next 6 hours.
Leave everything the way it is now, but limit the frequency they can do.. That may mean alts do the killing but they are still limited. We've been told Goons will kill a freighter for as little as 2bil in cargo. And I died with less then 200mil in my itteron. If they know they are facing a 6 hour countdown, it might just up their willingness to gank over such small amounts.

Some thoughts and not necessarily related to MD and may have been mentioned already
1. Reactivate the development on the API - its a very useful tool and is missing information. For Example not being able to identify what corp wallet a S&I job was done from, POS modules not associated with a tower.
2. Improvement to the S&I interface - even its as simple as remembering the last hanger, there is an enourmous number of mouse clicks to set up invention jobs for example
3. Share trading/Stock exchange type thingy - I bow to others wisdom on what in particular
4. Economies of scale in production.
5. A sugestion that when a Dev posts a dev blog he actually gets involved in the discussion for more than a few hours after publishing.
5. Ability to carry out material/time research on BPC - this was mentioned in the past by Oveur but seems to have been forgotten.

1) A new column in the Market called "Seller" - Can list name, corp, or alliance I really don't care. 2) When click on an order and select buy - I want to buy from that person, not from the cheapest at the station. 3) Introduce discounts and surcharges according to personal standing for personal orders, Corporate standing for Corporate orders.
These three things would take market PVP to a whole new level, because lets face it, with 0.01 being one of our only few options for hard core market PVP, it needs a buff.
There's a reason why you can't exactly see who the bidders and sellers are in real life exchanges (and other rules/laws in place). I won't go into details but suffice it to say it will turn the market into chaos and ruin EVE-playability for the largest portion of eve-players and will only benefit a few (those with connections) for a short period of time (until the market is so chaotic it will destroy itself).
In short - a VERY VERY bad idea from an economic point of view (coming from a 12-year long options/futures trader)

I'm wondering about 1 thing. Do you think majority of players won't just buy from the cheapest order? I think it's only a minority who wouldn't.

Actually from a futures exchange perspective it would all but eliminate the speculative market which in essence would kill the trade profession dead flat the day it went live.

I think you wrap that up into the shares and exchange market request, and even if possible have the ability to issue different types of shares tied to specific wallet divisions.

I would propose Interbus be added, but the "user" be given the option to allow Pod Pilot transportation. For example
I want to move 100 mil units of Trit, I click on the option "Allow POD Pilots" and I pay Interbus x amount of ISK whatever they choose to charge. Now Interbus is slow really slow. Without the Allow POD Ps. it will take 24 hours (After reboot) to get my stuff. This gives players the chance to move it. They pay Interbus the retaining fee, Interbus pays them a % of the fee I paid.
This will open up real NCP courier missions, still is a smaller ISK sink, and gives freighter pilots a "Bonus" by increasing their Interbus standings etc.
This is a nice idea. A very good improvement on the current courier contract system which is totally crap, laggy and has that stupid 120k m3 max cap. Besides that, collateral and speed are the main reasons why it's not a valid option for hardcore industrialists to use unfamiliar/public haulers, with some kind of npc system in the middle, collateral and speed might be taken out of the equation (or at least maximized).

Sure, but if you change that system (especially the part about being able to buy from higher priced sell orders and vice versa), some market manipulation options by wealthy individuals or cooperating players become available that can reduce the open market to a.... euhmm, I'm getting to parts I'm unwilling to share, sorry. Some of these manipulation options are already (partly) available and completely illegal in the real world but perfectly acceptable in EVE ofcourse.
Allthough not my cup of tea at the moment and in my opinion a relatively stable market is the most profitable one, no matter your profession exactly, whether you're a market manipulator, buy/sell trader, manufacturer, pve'er, pvp'er, etc., but then again, my terms of 'stable' are a bit loose.
edit: stable for me = the market must go up, the market must go down, and it needs plenty of activity |

Agreed, the insurance system is broken and has no place in this economy as it is, insurance fraud (blowing up your own ship or getting it blown up intentionally) is way too easy and the npc insurance company is running at a loss that would be unacceptable to any real insurance company, creating all kinds of inbalances in eve.
At the same time removing the insurance will remove the problem of the difference in insurance payouts for tech I and tech II ships, however I also think pvp should become more profitable if succesful to compensate (somehow depending on the cost of the enemy ship that was destroyed, haven't given it much thought, the current wreck/rigs system isn't sufficient incentive for profitable pvp, especially if you remove insurance on top of that).

1) Make assets screen refresh faster
2) Eliminate 5 minute delay on assets screen
3) Fix "AskHasBogusQuantity" bug that always happens when you try to sell something from your assets but the quantity has changed since last refresh
4) Fix market bugs, i.e. display of buy order range being dependent on your autopilot settings (wtf?)
5) I don't agree with people who say you should be able to buy from any sell order you want, instead of the lowest one. If this change were implemented the market screen will be flooded with scammers trying to sell shuttles (etc) for 9,000,000 because suddenly that scam will actually work. Seriously I'm a casual player and the 0.01 stuff is really not that bad. Come on people...
About 1) and 2) ... If it's a technical issue (and I suspect that it is) tell the EVE programmers that they should have the client request "All Assets" once at logon (or perhaps only once per week/month), and then update those values client-side using the transactions data (which I notice does not take a million years to load) plus add a feed for the tiny amount of additional cases where the assets at a station you're not at can be updated.

6) When you sort the sell orders by "distance", have it sort by "distance" and THEN by price (lowest first). I'm tired of having to sort only by one or the other and then scanning the list for the close/cheap order.

Except for the historical 3-4 years data, I think all the data is at least viewable to work with, all you need to do is to be able to get it to your pc (haven't checked out the whole API thing, haven't seen an export button for the history table in the market window). Theoraticly, if you can somehow sort all the data in the history table by station - or export a LOT of times every day to get accurate history transactions, or even better, a good export function for all historical transactions, oh wouldn't that be great - I could make you a spreadsheet with a self-updating chart (provided you have the new data somewhere on your pc) with any kind of moving average, stochastics, MACD, RSI, DMI, Parabolic SAR, whatever you fancy.
I'd charge you 5 billion ISK though.
But I'm all for improving market history exporting functionality over ingame viewability.

I didn't read the whole thread so I don't know if this has been mentioned already. I'm an inventor and manufacturer and my main issue is the job submission UI
The job submission tool is in dire need of an upgrade. Whenever I want to run an invention job on 5 bpcs, each time I have to select bpc, access the interface, specify the lab slot to use, specify which division for input and output, specify decryptors (if applicable). Doing this over and over is very cumbersome. It would be nice to select 5 bpcs at once, give them all the same setting, and choose a bunch of slots to process the job at once. Same problem exists with manufacturing.
So my suggestion is a new industry/science job dialog that can assign multiple jobs at once.

Trim this down to "destroy shares in possession" and you have a winner. "By vote" could be used punitively. However as the owner of the shares, possession being the major factor, you have every right to sell or destroy the shares in question. For the example you showed, just transfer the extra you accidentally voted into existence to yourself and destroy them. - API Development I saw someone say that further api development would be nice. Indeed it is and I know one api request I'd love. S&I activity log. It would not have to be all that complex either. Just a few fields really. Activity type (copy, manufacture, material, etc.); Blueprint; Install ME; Install PE; Runs; Facility Location; Installer; Charges; Status (In progress, delivered, cancelled). The S&I api data currently as it stands is in complete and provides no kind of log. Especially since you can have many jobs that are under one hour and don't register on the API in that time period.

Oh yeah, this reminds me of a non-market related thing. On missile info; why can't "range" (being velocity * flight time) be one of the bits of displayed data. Just one of them minor annoyances of having to keep a calculator handy whenever I want to know what my effective range is when I happen to be using missiles.

Edited by: Seb Balaak on 24/05/2008 12:43:26 I forgot to mention my own idea of battling the 0.01 undercutting (I did mention it some time ago in another topic), if you force people to use set increments of every market item based on their price (for example 0.01 cent for trit, but 10,000 for the majority of tech II modules in the price range 1M - 5M) AND change the market system in such a way that the volume of a transaction is divided equally amongst orders listed at the same price, I believe market behaviour will change a lot and people will be more inclined to list prices at certain levels without undercutting every 5 minutes.
You'll still see undercutting/overbidding but the right level of pricing will be reached much earlier and people will at some point be unable or unwilling to undercut/overbid and choose to set the price at the same level, or their own desired level. And you won't have to worry about your order not getting filled when placing orders at the same levels as large volume orders (since the transactions get divided equally) so no need to overbid those either.
You'll see orders moving in steps, and larger orders much more willing to share steps, everyone dealing in large quantities of minerals will know what I mean... I think. Do you overbid a smaller than 20M tritanium order with your 200M trit order if yours is listed at 3.61 and his at 3.62 and you know the price of trit was 3.54 a few days ago (and no indications of it going up much further)? But if someone else with a 200M trit order comes in it gets tricky with the current system, allthough people are still willing (at least they were when trit was still at around 2.4) to list the larger orders at the same price just because that 0.01 cent is a bigger step than 0.01 cent on most other items out there.
The trit is just an example of step-behaviour, it can't really be compared properly to most other items since it's a very high volume item but I do believe going to an increment system combined with dividing transactions over similar orders equally just like the exchanges in real life work, will help battle the 0.01 phenomena and make the eve-market work better.
The eve-market in it's current configuration is not a store. Where do you see buy and sell orders in a store? It's not some kind of e-bay where companies list their products. Where can you see a unique product, with lists of buy and sell orders and their prices? Right, an exchange.
We don't need intricate new programming for a stock exchange, the system is already there in plain view, it's a commodity market right now, but stocks could easily be added I would think.
P.S. personally I think you should get rid of that whole contract system and list everything in the market system, but I guess that's mostly because I just hate it's lag, complexity and limitations in both profit and my time, so I guess that's not really part of my suggestion, more a rant I guess the contract system is more like e-bay or a store, but just terrible the way it is now.
Eve market is an exchange, use increments and battle the 0.01 ISK phenomena! |

This can be done in game today, however it is rather clumsy. You can right click a column heading and select "make primary". Doing this you can force the order the columns are displayed and (somewhat) control the sort order.
What they really need to do is let us specify exactly how we want the market data sorted. This includes the order of columns (item, price, volume, etc) and the direction (ascend, descend). Also the sort order of columns should be independent from the display order of columns.

It's actually those reasons, which I believe I know what you're thinking, is why I believe it wouldn't destroy but a few people/corp/alliances. EVE is not really like the real world even though we'd all like to think it is. The same issues that would happen with knowing who is buying and selling said items wouldn't be so prevalent in EVE as it is in the real world.
None the less if I had to narrow my "Wants" of those three chooses I would simply want #2, then #3, then #1. Name is not important but the option to purchase from a higher priced person just because I want to should be available.
And I think I know why you don't like the idea of #2 because it would actually make market manipulation considerably easier.
If the cheapest person on the Market has highest number of items available, you go about purchasing up all the other orders above that one person. Creating a very large gap in price between that person and the next cheapest. People see this and think he is crazy and start to buy up his supply, other traders think the same thing and purchase much larger quantities. When his order is gone you then place all that you have and all you purchased at the new lowest price which happens to be considerably higher then what the original order was selling for.
Manipulation would be made easier and I believe it would actually see a slow but steady increase in prices across the board as more and more people do the above. I doubt it would crash the market, but I do believe it would server to steady the price. Which is something traders don't want, but manufactures do.
I guess it all depends on which microscope you're looking thought, from a trader you/we love the idea of heavily fluctuating markets, but this plays a real nasty numbers game on Manufacture.
