Which would hold if FW let you join the Navy. But it is only a millitia, which historicly did not give much in the ways of supplies to thier members.

So what, is the purpose of FW to be "CS in space"?

Assign people with navy gear for particular tasks.. it can not be resol etc. If they lose it completing the task no loot drops. They lose no isk so they ll pvp more.
If the are succesful with a large scale goal that takes a few weeks to complete then their Navy gearbecomes real gear (i.e. can be sold in the market and if you die part of it drops as loot) and new tasks are assigned and new pseudo navy gear is handed out to those who want to take part.
For good mmeasure make this gear 50% worse with a 50% increase when entering appropriate area so that while ot remains @pseudo gear@ (i.e. before the long term mission has succeeded) it is only useful in those areas. Once it becomes proper gear this stat disappears.
This proposal IMO fixes the risk and reward AND will make it have as much pvp as Sisi but it has the negative side of perhaps demanding some programming work SHOCK - HORROR!!!!
Arguably my opinions represent to an extent the opinions of my alliance and in particular circumstances give rise to a valid "casus belli" claim. |

I really don't understand why this couldn't have just been a highsec thing. It would have completely removed the issues of neutrals or capital ships getting involved. Now it's just going to be shooting fish in a barrel, and the worst part of it is that this is being geared towards players who don't pvp.
CCP, do you think any of those players are going to look fondly on entering a lowsec system in their cruiser (mission size requirement) and getting owned at a gatecamp by multiple neutral battleships? How did any of this get past the planning stage?

The way I sum up FW is basically "Take and Hold" for EVE. Your still fighting things left, right and centre, but you still have to take the "point" in the end for some kind of reward (we hope?). Might be sounding negative, but that's what I see it as
Still, I'll hold my breath and see how it plays out before I commit to it. --- We want T2/Faction drone modules!

Although I remain mildly skeptical of whether the EVE community will actually take to FW, I think CCP have done a great service in providing what is an excellent addition to the EVE story, support for those who actually roleplay, and so on.
It's just unfortunate that so many in EVE don't see the roleplaying merit or the fun of fighting for one arbitrary side that you like vs another arbitrary side you don't like (the usual in wars), but instead focus on the metagaming, min-max, and how much ISK they can make.
I mean, I'm an industrialist at heart and I think FW could be great fun, and also good for business. Put it like this - if enough people lose cheap ships, the T1 market will finally experience some proper competition as demand goes up.
I think the benefit may well come by itself - it's another way to gain LP and ISK and loot, whilst having vastly more fun than once again doing Angels Extravaganza. The balancing act will be the risk vs reward vs time. ___ "If you can't debate using logic & fact, and at least recognise other people's point of view, don't waste time posting on forums. It only makes you look like a teenage idiot." |

Edited by: Zantei on 05/06/2008 12:25:15 The only thing FW does for my Eve experience is complicate it, the majority of people still don't know how it works.
It'd be better to create some sort of "combat simulator" accessed via a station with that service. Of course, it'd be limited - time limits due to strain on CPUs and only usable by people with certain specialized skills ("Simulation Systems Interfacing" Rank 8). They might need to have the real ship but attach a simulation module in a low slot, which also eats CPU (20% perhaps).
Limited scenarios, limited ships, distinct VR theme with low polygon graphics or something to that effect.
Accessible to everyone, encourages everyone to do it for real, not complicated, does not interfere.
Edit: IS INTUITIVE Edit #2: Could move people away from Jita. ------------------------------------------

Apart of the troll, I don't think this has taken one year of development. CCP is famous for its poor programming skills & slowness (so much devs and so little done, not fun) but they have different teams for different things. IMO most effort is going to ambulation, now, we will see how much of a flop that is (instead of fixing stuff).
The idea behind FW is good, but as long as it does not have real consequences & rewards this will be a failure IMO.

I can't wait to fit my Caracal in empire and then travel to the Black Rise region to find a neutral gate camp, get blown up and podded, and do it all over again. I'll never even have to shoot a Gallentian malitia.
