Hi
Just installed the premium client and I am wondering how to get AA and HDR going at the same time. I can't seem to the AA working even without HDR enabled. It works fine in other games, just can't seem to get it going here. Any thoughts? Can i edit a config file to force it? I see a lot of posts for this issue with nVidia cards, the work arounds don't seem to help with ATI cards.
Thanks, Isandel

Edited by: Yumiko Ony on 22/05/2008 14:46:16 As far as I've managed to figure out, there is currently no way of having AA w/ HDR on ATI graphics. I hope I'm wrong though. :)
Additionaly, I've noticed that if you go overboard with graphics settings in ATI control center EVE just kind of falls back to the lowest possible quallity setting there is. So you might want to try lowering those to see what works for you.

Unfortunately (for me too) as far as I know you are correct -------------------------------------------------- 'people will always be tempted to wipe their feet on anything with 'welcome' written on it.' |

Ok, so can I do AA without HDR? I'm fine without HDR (given the choice between the two) I've tried it with no HDR, and still full of jaggies! Sooo ugly! I had a X1900 XT and it looked fine :(

Heres a link to my old thread on the subject. Maybe try lowering your quiality settings in CCC.exe?
Hope this helps. http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=709255

EVE Premium does not support AA at all currently. This is because we use HDR and most video cards cannot handle running HDR and AA.
There are a couple people who have found ways to make it work (browse through this forum a bit and you'll find them), but keep in mind that those methods are not "official" or supported in any way so you'd do that at your own risk. ____________________________ I break things.

Thank you Tanis. You may also close my petition now, as you've answered my question.
Kind regards.

I'm interested to know what was the reasoning behind HDR implementation first over Anti-Aliasing ? Having smooth edges seems soooo much more valuable to me (and my eyes) than some lightning effect. My GPU doesn't support AA at all when running the EVE client, that is.... regrettable. Hope you sort this out soon.

It would be nice to have the option to have AA+HDR for those of us with cards that can handle both.

It's not supported (meaning try at your own risk) but there area few folks who've figured out ways to get it to work:

Most (new) video cards can handle HDR and AA just fine. Even if they wouldn't be able to handle it, why not at least give us a option to use either AA or HDR? AA used to be in the client and you simply took it out one patch without explanation.
This way you just force your customers to use workarounds to enable a feature that should be (and is in pretty much every other MMO) an integral part of the game.
And the post you linked is for nVidia cards and not ATi (which is what the OP is using).
