Is there any way to autostack items? Other than specifically dropping like items atop one another.
Nearly every time I return from a mission, mining, ratting, errr other things... I have various odds and ends which I toss into the hanger. Next thing you know I have 10 different stacks of like items.
So then I do a 'select all' followed with 'stack all' but geeze no way to do this automatically?

technically there's a difference between stacked and non-stacked items;
A stacked item is just "item: number of items on stack"
a non stacked item has more variables, is it damaged, or in case of a ship is it fit, does it have rigs, a name and all that stuff.
So, autostacking doesn't really work for ships since you lose insurance and rigs. For items they may not be repaired or perhaps you don't WANT them to be stacked.
Tbh, I don't see a problem with "select all, repackage, stack all".

You don't have to do a select all before you do the stack all.
If you want all the items to stack that are alike Stack All by itself works fine.
Where you have a problem is if not all your items are repackaged.
So, what you can do then, is a Select All/Repackage and it will repackage all the items that weren't.
Then do a Stack All and all your items will be repackaged so they'll all stack.
One thing to look out for though is if you have any storage containers you've used to separate items in your hangar. If you do a Select All/Repackage this will repackage that container and dump it's items.
No. There's no more automated way than this.

Im not referring to 'fitted' items or ships.
Im talking about oridinarry items refinables, random loot, etc.
Having 5 stacks of say scordite in various amounts is aggrivatting. Why when I transfer from a haulers hold into the hanger cant they just stack on top of the existing stacks.....
Oh well Ill just keep on doing it the way I am now. Just wish there was an 'autostack' feature.

Sure they could (and do if you just place one stack on top of the other with the initial move), but then again you might not want that. I regularly find myself wanting items and other things in separate stacks. It would be a pain if every time I moved them the stuck themselves together again.

This right here...
I would rather have to periodically right click/stack all then have my items be forced to stack. -=^=-
