Hi, im looking for a **** hot tanker to use as a bit of bait now and again. I've got a rokh with 80+ resistances but im guessing one of the strongest tanks would be a drake, nighthawk or probably vulture? If anybody has a setup that tanks A LOT of dps then could they drop it in here please? Dec.

I would go for a passive or buffer tank, as a few neuts will **** even the best active tank up, even if your injecting, but you probably know that lol.
Damnation/abbadon could probably get some sick EHP with LG slaves. -------------------------------------------- [IMAGE REMOVED]

I fly caldari and minmatar really, and don't wanna splash out on a slave set or anything. I would consider sticking a few faction mods on to make it that bit more awesome, but other than that its gna be t2

broadsword tanks well with passive shield, at least 800dps with nice skills and 120kish ehp to boot...
obviously has the benefit of a highslot tackling mod too over a drake :P and perhaps less obvious? onyx is similar, using field extender rigs and all t2.

Just lost a broadsword last night, tank was amazing yeah, 17k shields, 80+ resistances with a good shield recharge rate, but im looking for something that tanks better than it. Surely there is another ship?

Strongest tank I ever had is a Drake: 7x HML II
2x SR II 2x LSE II 2x IF II [or 2 Specifics]
4x SPR II
According to EFT it passive tanks 1155 DPS for 21 minutes. Seems pretty awesome to me. But anyway, back to the point... I'm awesome :D |

If its for bait don't use a drake, that's its main use most of the time (as I've seen) and just screams trap.

If I see a drake solo, I assume Trap first and so would most people.
If I see a Impel, I will probebly give it a shot. If the impel turns out to be supertanked to hell, then well, you know.
So back to point, what kind of traps are you planning? Are you planning to let loose a cyno and have carriers jump to you? Are you keeping people 1-2 jumps away ready to charge in?
What kind of trap are you planning, so we can think of decent ships for you to use as bait. --

No no, nothing like carriers jumping in, I aint a pure fcktard and we don't blob. It will be mostly to get people who don't want to fight to agress, small scale stuff. I would also just like to have a reaaally strong tanker, so that when people are flashing off their neutrons I can make them cry and quit the game.

Use an upper Tier Industrial or a Transport with a few plates and 1-2 warp disruptors if you feel comfortable enough...just enough buffer to last until your "trap" jumps in, 1-2 points to hold the fast enemy gang members (and /or a webber), all in a hard to resist package

Damnation -
Lows - 2 1600 Rolled Tungsten Plates 1 DCU T2 2 Corpum A EANM 1 800 Rolled Tungsten
Rigs - Trimarks. Implants - Slaves
I beileve this gives you somewhere around 600k effective hp

And to the OP, you don't really need an overkill bait ship (like damnation or drake, or vulture or HIC) Because a lot of people would suspect them to be bait, why not a 2x 1600 3 eanm 1 dc + 3 trimarks Hurricane? __________________________________ Vids about me raping peeps in my trusty battle boat

Prophecy because it doesnt scream trap, triple 1600 plate it, 2x eanm II and a damage control, if you can afford 3 trimarks stick them on, and a bunch of 280 II artillery with republic emp and quake.

3x LSE II's, 3x Invuln II's, 1 Damage control II, 3 Extender Rigs I's = about 165k average SHIELD EHP with my skills and a 3% shield HP implant.
(and for 1000 DPS of fun, add Neutron Blasters and Damage mods!) ------------------------------------------------------------------

there is a video out there called "tanking-abc" that shows a buffered damnation hold out for like 10 minutes to a gate camp, i wanna say it was in the neighborhood of ten ships...for ten minutes.....that is nothing short of amazing, if damnation didnt have gimp dps, i would say he had a chance at getting away. best sig ever:)

He also got bumped off the gate and had no friendly help iirc not that I'm criticising, I've been bumped off gates so much and it is adrenaline pumping until you realise you're double/triple webbed and are never making it back to the gate.
But yeah it was incredibly amazing to see! Love uber tanking like that

the myrmidon makes a crazy passive shield tank... i know i know, you should always go with bonuses etc, but give it a try
High - 6 x 280 projectiles (no hybrid bonus anyway)
Mid - 3 x large shield extender II 2 x invuln field II
Low - full rack of shield power relay II
rigs - 3 x field purgers
Gives some sick recharge rate and despite the poor resists, works really well. Loses None of its damage potential by fitting this tank since its main weapon are drones (whereas the drake must chose between SPR's or ballistic controls. Can field 2 heavys, 2 meds and a light, and fit a spare set in the bay.
As a bait ship, its much cheaper than a command ship, and will certainly survive long enough for the fleet to arrive. I fought an astarte and 2 ishtars on sisi in one of these, having been neuted my invulns weren't running, and it still took a total of 225238 damage :P (they had to get friends in to finish me...) i hate to think how much i could've taken if the invulns were on. As a fighting setup, its not much good with no speed, no tackle etc... but as a bait ship, it'l definately do the job.

Vulture has about the best tank smaller then a capital ship. Nighthawk for a bit less tank, more offense. Both not too expensive to fit tank since you're not relying on fancy faction items.

The biggest problem with a bait ship is finding one that doesn't scream bait. The Drake has a legendary tank and thus it will be bypassed unless the enemy feels they have enough firepower to bring it down before support shows up (and it doesn't take as much as you'd think to bring a Drake down). Ships like the Vulture are even worse because it's known for having an even stouter tank plus it's a huge uninsurable pile of isk when it inveitably blows up.
Any bait ship needs to have a number of features ideally. First, it needs to be able to survive long enough under heavy fire to actually function as bait. Second, it needs to ability to at least hold your prey in place for at least a few seconds while your friends show up (no good letting them run once the trap is sprung). Third, the ship must be an attractive prize - i.e. a ship that is generally considered to be fairly weak but has a high enough price tag associated with it to make the attempt worthwhile. Fourth, the ship must be reasonably inexpensive in terms of it's replacement costs.
Personally, I think the ship that BEST fits this requirement is the Scorpion. 8 mid slots and four low slots means you can fit a stout active tank with a respectiably thick buffer along with a modicum of tackle. The six high slots can be filled with smartbombs and neuts (to kill off the swarm of droens you'll inevitably have set upon you by the small gank gangs, and to help quickly wear down active tanks or slow nano ships). Since shield resist rigs are so cheap, it's reasonable to throw resist rings on to increase the EHP even further. In terms of replacement cost, the Scorpion is almost free before you throw in fittings (and with a full set of T2 gear, the uninsured ISK would sit around 30 million isk). Finally, the Scorpion is renowned as a bane of fleets with it's myriad of ECM modules - most people would never consider it a hard target in the least.
