Edited by: Khaerie on 24/05/2008 10:41:49 IÆve whipped up a little guide to help Recruiters get a more positive result from their hard work efforts. Some can use it and some do not need it. I do not presume to be the ultimate guide and ask for others to add their own thoughts in order to make it useful to all.
*Do your homework. A person who jumps around a lot is not necessarily a bad risk. Some dedicated pvpers have taken that extra step to merge with another corp or to do work for their alliance.
*Don't assume an applicant is slamming. If you ask them for honesty it is in very poor taste to then judge/ridicule them.
*Don't slam an applicant on the boards. The person you slam today could be the person that war decs your alliance tomorrow. If that isn't enough of a reason then keep in mind that how you, the recruiter acts, is a reflection to that applicant on how your corporation/alliance acts. Many will not be interested in speaking to you if they see how you treat those you do not want.
*If a person tells you politely it is not a fit, don't push yourself on them. Really, with all the players there are in this game there is no need for that.
*Research! Research! Research! I can't stress this enough. Recently someone tried to implied I may be a corp thief simply because they didn't take time to notice how old my character was.
*Skill Points are not a guarantee of anything. If a player says they are a lot of Skill Points find out what they are in and what they have done. Do not assume immediately they are l33t pvpers.
*State your Corp Beliefs and Goals and what you want from a player. Remember, you are not the only one being interviewed in this discussion.
*A quiet public channel is not an inviting public channel. A simple hi is nice but if the appllicant is wanting to get to know your corp it will take a bit more of getting to know each other. Isn't that the point?
*Yesterday's Pirate can indeed be today's PVPers. I've seen it all. I'm not saying do not take precautions but what I am saying is to remember that it is indeed a player behind the scenes.
*Where are you? Not every individual is going to be willing to jump all over the place. Tell us where we are going first.
*Are you at war? Some want to fight, some donÆt.
*How many players are in what time zone? Most often applicants are moving because there is no one to talk to.
*Copy Paste is bad mkay? We, the applicants, know you just pasted a really well worded ad, you just pasted it to several others. WeÆll read it but there is a chance we wonÆt bother giving much more effort then you just gave us. Same goes for evemail ads. One word. Spam
*Following up can be a good thing if they are showing interest. If this is a player you want take the trouble to check in on occasion, YesterdayÆs maybe or no can still become tomorrowÆs Yes. YOU represent your corp/alliance. It is up to you to nurture that link and yes that sometimes means getting in your ship and jumping a long way to do a little something with them. Your level of commitment to them will give you better chances to gain committed players.
*Recontact is a good thing. If you see someone you wanted in the corp put up another ad, resend your information. DonÆt assume they will remember speaking to every single recruiter. There are a LOT of recruiters!
*ITÆS A GAME! DonÆt ever get so full of yourself that you forget this part. Your game may not be their game. Treat them with the same respect you expect.
Okay, the rest is up to the community. Give me info you want to see added or give me ideas on things that need tweaking. IÆm up for the discussion.

Good info. You might want to add something about using proper spelling and grammar in recruitment posts.

You might want to add something about using proper spelling and grammar in recruitment posts.
Also, it would prove very valuable to have recruitment posts also contain: Age of the Corp, Number of Players in the Corp and Tax Rate. As I both mine and run missions, it's really a let down when I think I have found a good Corp, then find out they have a Tax Rate that is excessive and/or only have 4 or 5 members.
Thank you Dubious your suggestion is a great one and has been added. Please bear in mind that some spelling errors has to do with language differences and should never be a reason to discredit a corp or recruitment. I wish I could give credit on the post but it is already running out of room. If this gets stickied I'll break it in to two parts and make sure every adviser gets credit. Looking for new sig |
