I have my Imicus set up with (1) Miner 2 and (1) 75 mm gun. Is that ok for 0.8 space. Also which is the best ammo for the gun I have ??

Hello Citrine  . For ammo, antimatter should be ok, for longer range you can try thorium. My imicus have cargo expanders, an afterburner and a shield, but I don't think you can get all of this with a miner 2^^, the cargo expanders should be ok and useful too .

Use 2 miner I and 5 scout drones. You re galente the drone race use that advantage. medium slots shield booster afterburner, low slots cargo expanders.

you don't really have the need of a gun in 0.8 space
NPC Pirate are low threat there (if by 2 or 3 maximum)
You should user 2 miner I for best mining, 2 cargo expanders (you must have mechanic skill 1 and hull upgrade 1) and a civilian shield
for you protection, you can use scout drone (a single very little dron can help a lot and it's ok for 0.8 or 0.7)
you can also just use 1 or 2 combat drone and buy mining drone

depending on your skills 2x miner 1, or a miner 2 + miner 1, civ shield booster and a roid scanner, and 2x cargo expanders.
Get some drones, you can hold up to 5 small drones DFrone bay is 250 m3, small drones are 50 m3) which will be more than enough for .8 space for protection...but takes drones 5 (control one drone per level). I would instead recommend getting drones 3 to start with, and getting 2x hammerheads and 1x some other small drone.
With that set up you could mine down to .7, or maybe even .6 fairly safely. Since you can find omber in .6 and .7 space, that would probably be your best bet cash wise, but make sure to use the ore calculator on one of the fan sites, and see whats worth most at current prices. You might find it's something like scordite depending on who's paying what for tritanium.

You can (quite easily) run two miner II's on an imicus if you boost the CPU with electronics skill and/or co-processors.
As others have said use a combination of small and medium scout drones for defence.
This setup worked fine for me in .7 systems.
