Edited by: Aeo IV on 24/05/2008 16:09:46 Edited by: Aeo IV on 24/05/2008 15:58:48 While a good number of posters in these forums often discuss PVP related issues, what's not often discussed is the lack of content for corporations, industry related stuff, and other professions.
For example, why is it that after 5 years, we STILL don't have a stock market that will allow corps to be traded publicly, or set a daily quantitative worth for the price of raw materials? I mean, for a game that holds it's market up as a shining example of what markets should look like, the inability to buy and sell stocks and related things is a rather large over sight.
Or, for example, why is it that we STILL don't have a salvage ship? We've asked for it many times, but it would be nice to see some real work done on this.
I've probably missed some stuff, but it boils down to: Eve isn't just about ship-to-ship PVP, will we ever see an expansion that focuses on things like Salvaging, exploration (Bigger and better ships?), new content for CEOs (Stock market?), mining (Mobile refiners? Faction based mining ships?), industry (Mobile factories?)?
If not, who among you will stand up and demand on our be half for this content?

I agree. However, your title is a little misleading. Everything in the game is PvP. It is just not Ship vs Ship PvP. ----------------------------------------------- Why do I post here?

Edited by: Herschel Yamamoto on 25/05/2008 04:00:13 Come on now, they've implemented 5 different salvage ships in the last year. Just because they cost 1000-2000 times as much as a destroyer and have nothing but tractor bonuses, making them salvage maybe a few percent faster(2 Rorqual tractors or 3 Marauder tractors still beat 4 normal tractors), doesn't mean CCP hasn't given us salvage ships.
Seriously though, I'd agree to some extent. The stock market is a bit far-fetched, given that it requires a far higher level of trust(and SEC enforcement) to make a stock market functional than Eve allows for. A decent salvage ship(probably some kind of ORE cruiser-sized ship, T1, with about an 8/3/3 layout and say 20% tractor range/speed and 5% salvage chance per level as its bonuses) would be very nice, so we don't have to keep bastardizing Cormorants.
A lot of the industrialist-type interfaces need a thorough overhaul as well. Better corp management, better asset searches, the option to highlight your orders on market(and a quickbar folder that auto-updates with your current orders) would all be nice, as well as a hundred I haven't thought of.
As for the mobile factories/refineries, I always felt that should be more of a Titan's role, but it'd be sweet to see them actually inherit it instead of just getting a clone vat and a corp hangar and being labeled a "mobile station", while they go off to jump bridge and doomsday for their entire existence. Titans as mobile, destructible outposts(in addition to their capabilities as logistical support vessels and blob-smashers, of course) would be a really cool addition IMO. Who wouldn't want to park a refinery in a belt, suck it dry with Exhumers, reprocess it all, repeat until the system is dry, and then jump bridge the whole group elsewhere to repeat the process? And if anyone comes raiding, the Hulks all dock up, the Titan blasts a DDD, and you go back to normal. Now that's a corp mining operation. I have no idea whether it'd be a sensible addition to the game, but it'd be awesome.
Edit: Apparently previewing clears your support checkbox. ------------------ Fix the forums! |

Salvage ship? What's your problem with the Executioner? It works fine, and if you need more speed and capacitor, there are T2 variants that can do the job even quicker.
I would be in favor of a Salvager II module. And maybe a Tractor Beam II, too.

hurricane is the ultimate salvage ship right now... lots of grid, can fit mwd and ab, 4salvageI, 4 tractors and can support 2040m3 cargo.
But i generally agree that non-pvp content is lacking, perhaps ccp thinks ambulation is enough.

I disagree on the salvaging ships, what we have works just fine, stop being lazy.
I do agree with the stock market, however, the stocks themselves need some reworking. My old corp has something like 364,008 stocks, or some silly number. We had to keep making more stocks because people would get stocks, then leave the game, so we had to make thier stocks worthless so we didn't lose a whole lot of money. By the end, it was just silly how the stocks looked, because so many inactive players had stock that if we did a payout, half the money would go to waste. I suck at forums |

Yes. More industrial/explorations side content...
Something that is different from the "min ore, mix with blueprint, get item" stuff that we currently have.

Of course it would need some anti-scam measures to be feasible, though it should be risky. ---------------- Mr. Science & Trade Institute |

Actually EVE has some amazing content for "builders" it's just we hardly ever get to see it. The insane hurdles (and meta-gaming) you have to go through to put up a POS in highsec, the prohibition on highsec moon mining, and the inefficiency of POS manufacturing facilities compared to NPC assembly lines, discourage most carebears from ever experimenting with any of it.

Edited by: White Ronin on 26/05/2008 23:14:59 Stock markets are PRIVATELY OR PUBLIC OWNED companies that are federally regulated. CCP should not be the ones to implement this... a player corp should. CCP would be the equivalent of a regulatory body like the nfa (for futures trading) or the SEC for stock. Not supported. If I had the isk myself I would gladly start the exchange myself but it would require alot of effert in oversite and regulation and valuation. Only a player has the dedication to give this sort of thing... ccp does not. Trust me... I have held various licenses to broker, run a brokerage, raise capital for private investment and many other aspects of the business. An exchange to trade shares of companies is an untapped goldmine that none have seen fit to take advantage of. But it is certainly NOT CCP's RESPONSIBILITY.
We have salvage ships that actually work out well to give purpose to ships that dont have a purpose otherwise.... destroyers.
Now there are ships that need to be fielded for the other subprofessions that need addressed... mainly exploration. But that is but one issue.
But most things have tools in place to allow them to be fixed by the player commumity. At least the things brought up in your original post.

EVE online isn't RL, we don't, in theory, require real people sitting around and regulating a stock market, if the mechanisms programed for it maintain and regulate the various aspects of the system. I'm not sure why you are assuming that CCP should be dragged into it.
As for the other things... By dismissing things like Salvaging as a sub profession, or a hobby is incredibly ignorant.
My original post is merely forwarding the idea that the other areas of the game should be explored and worked and added too, rather then ignoring them for the more exciting world of blowing sh*t up.

Salvaging is what destroyers r good at with the numerous highslots but I agree that there should be a dedicated Salvager with bonus towards Salvaging ,Tractor beams and Cargo Capacity and possibly even a speed boost to get to those far away wrecks faster....

There should be a dedicated ship for all professions, not just salvaging. And the stock market audited by the market authority between the Empires [I assume it is a branch of CONCORD].
Making the POS factories more efficient would be nice, too. As it is they give more penalties than bonuses, and no one wants to touch them.

The first stock market was just a group of people on the lawn of a certain famous street with a man on a wall handling it like a auction... which it is in truth. We do not need a full blown DOW or NASDAQ. We need educated players to take the initiative to set this up and oversee it with CCP playing government regulator. For companies to help start the process they need to start paying regular dividands. This will give players incentive to purchase them. If I knew a stock would pay out and begin returning profits after 3 months I would certainly invest. That is just an example on payout. I am sure it will be tighter. But supply and demand will dictate. The need to purchase will eventually stimulate a need to sell. Simple. The tools are already in place. As for record keeping, indexes, charts and info... in the beginning only the people in the yard will have that info till A PLAYER decides to gather it and publish it for others use. CCP simply needs to be the "cops". You MUST have a punishment to the massive fraud that could happern and the ones to implement this are the police... concord... aka ccp. Or the first time it stumbles due to someone filching money or company interests it will fall and never get up. Ever. If you have NO WAY to assure the transaction or investment and/or if there is no way to punish grief/fraud/theft, the eve stock market will never happen. ANd ccp is the only body that can perform this role. You, and many people have a overblown vision of a stock market. It aint nothin more then having everyone in a chat channel bidding for shares in eve companies and exchanging them with the "give" function. Start simple and grow from there.

I am not. I am actually an explorer. We have tons of salvage ships compared to explorations ships. TONS. And as I said before that needs addressed. Why did you miss that? Selective reading? But it is as simple as removing the cpu bonus for gang mods on the new bc's and making it a cpu bonus to use probe launchers. Ta Da! The next exploratioin/salvage/hacking/arch ship is born. Throw a scan time bonus on there if ya want but I that is weak. Dont give it away. Exploration is fun cause it aint easy. And I fly a cloaked domi to explore in hostile system so dont say I dont understand the time it takes to scan stuff down.

And while I agree with your general concept the specific things you gave as examples were far from needed. We need more content. Yes. CONTENT. More systems that are actually dangerous for anyone to go into because of the enviroment or npc's. Imagine adding a few dozon new system based on the RECON mission story.... The NPC's need a purpose other then to get shot. How about they launch a large fleet action to actually control the space they are supposed not just go about getting shot by us? CONTENT has typically ment (in other mmo's) more area to move in, more ai enemies that are actually challenging and a reasonable storyline for it all.
Not just ships. Or have ccp do something that a player should do. Sorry. But I am just one voice and I am sure the New Ship Lobby and the Lazy Player Lobby will support you full force.
