I recently purchased a maller and was wondering what a good setup for npc hunting would be. Mostly frig npcs but any suggestions are welcome. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v441/Dillinger4/Felsin.jpg |

Edited by: Kaylona Tso on 04/05/2004 02:17:30 3 720mm Rails, 1 small autocannon of choice, 2 small smart bombs
1 10mn MWD, 1 Tech 2 Medium Shield Booster, 1 14 or 15% cap charger
3 power diags, Damage Mod for Projectiles, 1 tracking enhancer and 1 sensor enhancer
You should be able to hunt cruiser rats in that once your skills get a tad better if your kinda new. Make sure you are at lvl 3 or 4 for the skills that need the mods I said. -----

Why would you use projectile guns on a Maller ? It's excellent for lasers, not to mention as it's NPC hunting the lasers would be nice because they need no ammo.
I have no clue of the fitting capabilities of a Maller, but I'd imagine something like this:
3 Heavy Beams, 1 Pulse laser and one smartbomb or two.
You CAN drop the mwd, but in NPC it can save your ship. Go for the Shield booster and put one EM ward on the ship. If you don't use the MWD go for a thermal ward as well. Use Heat Sink II or Extruded Heat Sink, 1 tracking mod and a few power diags or cap relays.
Why the sensor enhancer in npc hunting ? It's not like the locking time matters... and I doubt you'll be fighting that far away you need a sensor booster vs frig npc's... would just be too time consuming.

This is my setup, i have engineering and electronics 4. High: 4 heavy beams with radio and multifrequency crystals. Medium: medium shield booster, EM hardner and cap battery(might change for thermal hardner) Low: 3 cap relays and 2 power diags. I can take out about 3 powerful cruisers without going into armor damage so its not too bad for rat hunting.

I like to armortank a Maller.
Highslots : Whatever lasers you feel you have cap and grid for. 5 heavy beams is possible with a few RCU and high engineering skill. The lasers are switchable to 250 rails with antimatter, then you really chew up npcs once you get in range. Radio and Gamma crystals for the lasers.
Med : MWD, and two Tech II cap rechargers, 15% each :)
Low : 400mm Armorplate, named is better, Medium named armor repairer, and cap relays and/or RCUs depending on which lasers you wanna fit. Damage mod if you feel like you have enough cap recharge.
This setup lets you go up close if you want to or stay at range. Works well as long as you dont get stuck on a roid....

well, here my my setup coming, its quite firepower heavy but nice. even though im cutting it very close in the powergrid :)
High Slots 4x Heavy Beam lasers I (loaded with IR, MF in cargo) 1x Quad Light Beam Laser I (MF, to take out those pesky frigates that get too close) 1x Micro Plasma Smartbomb I (takes out some missiles)
Med Slots 1x Medium Shield Booster 1x Azeotropic EM Ward Salubrity I 1x Basic Capacitor Recharger I (to be changed)
Low Slots 2x Marked Generator Refitting : Diagnostic System 1x Basic Reactor Control Unit 1x Basic Power Diagnostic System 1x Partial Powerplant Manager : Diagnostic System 1x Heatsink
this doesnt leave all that much CPU nor powergrid, but strictly speaking you dont NEED the smartbomb nor the Quad Light beam so you can save some there until your skills get improved :) _____________________________ Ex-Coretech, We still shoot people. |

Guess you never really went NPC hunting? Why wouldn't you use 720mm on any ship that could use Mediums? The bonus to Maller doesn't negate the fact that 720mm is the best M gun in the game. Furthermore, it affords you modules, albeit if you can fit it all, like MWD and Shield boosters without as much worry to your cap.
Ship bonuses are like dirty socks, everyones got it. But not everyone likes to wear dirty socks. Dictating Range with Projectiles and MWD is pretty much the best way to fight in this game with ease. Guy wouldn't have posted if he wanted a suicide loadout like lasers. Have to use all your cap recharghing mods just to keep your guns running... HAHAHA sooner or later that ship is toast. -----

Edited by: Liare on 04/05/2004 15:15:44 im only running into cap problems when the engagement is over five minutes long or alternatively when i boost my shield (with a engagement range of 25km its not really that often), in both of these cases im in trouble, or heading that way fast. a good Amarr cruiser skill helps quite a bit
and tactical withdrawl is not a sin, it can be quite a effective way to ensure survival _____________________________ Ex-Coretech, We still shoot people. |

The Maller I use for agent kill missions is fitted as follows:
3x 250mm rail 2x heavy beam 1x small smartbomb
1x med cap battery 1x med shield booster 1x 10MN afterburner
1x overdrive fill out lows with power diags and reactor controls as needed.

720mm Rails? Where the hell did you get your hands on those?
That said, with all due respect for the miss, but I wouldn't trust someone who can't tell the difference between railguns and howitzers for my setup
Try this:
Medium shield booster MWD Cap recharger
Mix PDUs and CPRs in the lows, throw in a heatsink or two if you like
As many heavy beams as you can in the highs. If you have some leftover grid, small or micro smartbomb to take out an occasional missile.
Peace through love, understanding and superior firepower. Real men structure tank! |

When I was using my Maller for NPC hunting/chaining, I used:
High: 5x Heavy Anode Particle Streams
Mid: YS-8 Hydrocarbon Medium C5-L Anointed EM Ward
Lows: 6x Power Diags (named will safe you a few CPU, but I had no problems fitting this with electronics 3/weapon upgrades 2)

Why would you use lasers on a maller? The bonus gives to cap useage and projectiles and rails already use way less cap. Plus they have lower grid requirements so you can fit more guns, and you'll run out of cargo space to carry loot way before you'd run out of ammo. Lasers r teh suck.
