ok, i know this is a controversial topic but..(think rgp here) when you train a skill you are reading from one book, so all the info for lvl1 through to lvl5 is in that one book, when you leave the game i like to think of it as you just have some leisure time in you ship or the station and keep reading the thing you are studying, if you cold just reach the end of lvl1 and carry on through to lvl2 that would be highly plauseable, as for different skills you would only have the one book with you so you couldnt swap over...

nice idea - what happens about reaching lvl 5 in a skill? or would it then just stop as it does now?

yeah you reach level5 and thats it, end of book, chuck it in the bin. you then have to log on to go back to your ship or your hold and get another book to start on.

Maybe a skill in it, for 'fast reading' or each level of the skill will make the ability to train that level automatically like this:
You have "Autotrain skill level 3". You can now automaticly train to level 3 from the selected book. You have "autotrain skill level 5". You can now automaticly train to level 5 from the selected book.
etc.
Its a good idea to autotrain, so you dont have to wake-up in the middle of the night to train the next skill

I always think on it like this:
The information is input directly into your brain via a neural jack in your pod, however your brain can't cope with a lot of 'simple' information and so has to rewire itself before it can understand what it has learnt. That way the time taken is actually the time for this rewiring to occur. With the use of implants however you can focus this rewiring on different samples of information (changing skills) or speed up the processing time (augmentation).
However, this train of thought kind of rules out the idea of skills continuing on as you suggest.

AvanCade, that's an excellent idea
Autotraining, Rank 5 pre-req Learning lvl5
skills will automatically roll over training to the next level up to the level of this skill.

Hey, I think its a really good idea too. Its a shame that the EVE developers, CCP, havent already thought of that and incorporated it into the Game. It would make life a hell of alot easier, so you dont have to quickly log on when your in a mad rush, and just set a skill there and then.
You should push your idea with these guys.
