Since there is no sniper rule, I think we should clarify this:
Bids from 05.06.2008, 19:59 ET are valid.
Bids from 05.06.2008, 20:00 ET are invalid.

Maybe I got the idea wrong, but to my knowledge sniper just extends the auction for the duration of the sniper time - so it seems pretty much pointless to me. Correct me if I'm wrong.

you are very wrong sorry.
An auction is a period of time that potential bidders have to argue over the value of an item.
No sniper rules means that period of time is effectively shorted to 2minutes prior to the end time stamp (hence that guy asked you to confirm the time stamp.. he's going to sniper it with an alt or with that character most likely. Is 2minutes long enough to effectively bid and over bid someone else?
A sniper rules means potential bidders have a few minutes minimum to respond to an over bid. meaning there is more chance for the bidder most wanting the item to go home with it (win for the bidders) and more chance of a higher sale price (win for the auctioner) and less chance for some lucky guy with a fast net connection to steal it for 60-80% of it's potential value.
If something is used in most auctions it's there for a good reason.. dont ignore it unless you know why m8 :D.
I strongly advise a 15min sniper.

Ok - I think I now undestand the sniper rule better.
So, as of now and since action end is still a few days out, I hereby announce that a 15 minuts sniper rule is in effect. Official end is still 20:00:00, but any bid less than 15 minutes before that time will extend the auction for another 15 minutes. Another bid within the extended auction time will further extend the auction until there is now more offer for 15 minutes (that's the way it works usually - right?) - sorry, I'm an auction noob :)
