What is the best combo in terms of Race --> class -- > subclass for a combat-oriented character? Drone-spec not required . . . well maybe, but that might mean "special forces" instead of "soldier", in which case gunnery might be a bit lacking at first.
I know, for example, that Amarr-Khanid-CyberKnight is a good one. Although I forget how many points you need to allocate to whichever stats.
I'd appreciate your guidance. Thanks.

Edited by: Oakrayven on 26/05/2008 04:42:34 nope theirs just 10,000 threads on this already
Achura is good if you want a so called "best posible speed to skill up" but yout stuck (initialy) with PvE boats, but your in good shape to crosstrain Rails, but your stuck needing to skill up drones for Gallant ships. . . the list goes on and on and on for each race combo in the game, they all have their plusses and minuses.
Ironicaly you can make simular arguments about any given race in the game
Trust Aura. Aura is Your Friend.

Honestly, what did you expect? I doubt highly that you can point to any race and call them the "best" fighter. Best at what?
Minmatar are speed demons - they start with exceptionally high Navigation speed. They can use Tech-2 Afterburners right out of the box and can train MWD's in about 15 minutes. Their speed and good tracking projectile turrets lend well to faster targets such as Drones or fast Frigates.
Minmatar pilots start with skills that lean toward hit-and-run combat and Piracy.
Gallente are Droners - They start with good Drone skills and most all their ships have decent drone bays, even some Frigates! Therefore, starting Gallente lean toward eating up smaller targets.
Gallente pilots start with skills that emphasize close range combat with Blasters and long range combat with Drones. They also start with Mechanic skill, so they can immediately fit Armor Repair modules.
Amarr are pretty balanced - They start with great Engineering and Mechanics skill, so can comfortably use Energy Grid upgrades and such while maintaing excellent Armor tanking.
Amarr pilots start with skills that emphasize well roundedness. Although Lasers are kinda crappy(my opinion only), they can still deal good damage against the Amarr faction enemies. Also have *ok* Drone skills, but not great Drone bays in lower tier ships.
Caldari are Missileers - They start with incredible Engineering skills to emphasize Shield Tanking. They also have great Missile skills, lending them excellent versatility in PvE content.
Caldari pilots start with skills that greatly emphasize Shield Tanking and Missiles. As such, they do not do as well in PvP out of the box as Missiles are somewhat lackluster. Their Shield skills, as well as Ship Resistance bonuses make them very difficult to kill, making them have greatly increased survivability.
You really have to just pick a race that appeals to you and try all the different forms of combat before you find the right one for you. My first was Minmatar, and I got it right the first time. I really like speeding around fast and weapons that drain my cap are really irritating. I played all the other races through the tutorial and a few days after trying out their ships, and luckily, I made the right choice with Minmatar.
Try all the different combat characters. What's the point of min/max'ing if you get stuck with a character who's combat style you don't like?
Anyways, sorry for the long-winded post.

it all depends on what you like really. Doesn't matter what race you choose, if you like the style (the way your characters look like and the name of the ship) then you can ALWAYS train to be a good fighter. I prefer minmatar from all because if you can fly most or all the ships you can choose whether you want to use missles or turrets. I find that AC's are the best for pvp (in my opinion) and once you get the skills and isk (to buy faction or t2 ammo) I think that they can... how you say... wtfpwn in pvp :)
then again, if you have a Rupture and someone has a Deimos don't think that it will be an easy win. Usually, more sp the better :)

balanced attributes with per and wp with a bit more weight than the other attributes
and the soldier is nice as it has gunnery and small racial turret 5 to start. where special forces generally has something else thats more helpful later on, like drones 5 is great to have, but doesn't help so much in a frigate

Be more specific when asking questions. You're asking for the 'best' starter in a sandbox game where combat can take a great many forms.

For pretty much any skill you need Cha for- those are like super duper minor (connections, military connections, etc) (Rank 1 -> Rank 3 skills)
the khandid cyberknights is very good as well but it got hit with +2 CHA over achura
For Tech II combat pilots the attributes is like this:
Perception, Will, Intelligence, Memory, Cha
Some prioritize Willpower slightly above CHA but if you want Tech II ships you see Willpower popup as primary a lot.
Achura is hands down best all around only build that can go 9/9/9/9/3. The cyberknights is best specialized combat pilot though for the higher PER. I'd pick between these two for a new combat character. The cyberknights build is obviously faster for a single minded combat char. Use that program EVEHQ, drop desired skills in there and it will recommend a good char
