I just cross trained for Gallente cruisers so I could use the Thorax. Now I'm looking at the Vexor and hearing that it can be just as good or better. Anyone have any advice on whats a better solo ship and have any good solo fittings for both ship?

It's hard to move three feet on this forum without stepping on a Thorax build thread. Look around.

Well I found a setup for a Vexor and gank fit Thorax on eve-pirate.com, but I'd like some input in which one is better for solo pvp. I don't have too good of drone skills so I'm pretty sure I'll stick with the Thorax. Any advice?

Edited by: Corduroy Rab on 26/05/2008 05:32:11 Personally I have always loved the gank fit Thorax with ECM drones, and it has worked well. The Vexor is a really dangerous ship in the proper hands too. There is a vid called Fearless Vexor, or something like that, in which the pilot does some pretty cool stuff solo with that ship. I think it more comes down to how you prefer to fly.
Here is the thorax setup I use:
[Thorax, Neutron Blaster] Reactor Control Unit II Damage Control II Small Armor Repairer II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
10MN MicroWarpdrive II Stasis Webifier II Warp Disruptor II
Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Void M Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Void M Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Void M Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Void M Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Void M
[empty rig slot] [empty rig slot] [empty rig slot]
Vespa EC-600 x5
This too on occasion (where there is a friend/s with a similar setup to put the rep drones on)
[Thorax, Platerax 1] Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Damage Control II Reactor Control Unit II 1600mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
10MN MicroWarpdrive II Stasis Webifier II Warp Disruptor II
Heavy Electron Blaster II, Void M Heavy Electron Blaster II, Void M Heavy Electron Blaster II, Void M Heavy Electron Blaster II, Void M Heavy Electron Blaster II, Void M
[empty rig slot] [empty rig slot] [empty rig slot]
Medium Armor Maintenance Bot I x5
EDIT: Contrary to what is posted I tend to use either Null or Navy AM ammo

IMO, the Thorax is better. That said, I'm fully spec'ed for the Vexor.

How does one spec for a vexor and NOT be specced for a thorax? They kinda overlap...
But anyways, Thorax handles better solo in most situations, whereas a glass cannon vexor handles better in gangs (depends on the gang I suppose.)
I've used either to take down battlecruisers solo, however.
Depends on how you prefer to fly and what you're fighting.
Hint: Don't active tank either of them.

excellent drone skills and average gunnery skills? they dont overlap at all: be drone specced means:
drones 5 drone interfacing 5 combat drone operation 5 drone duravility 5 drone specialization skills .....
what those skills have to do with a blaster thorax?

The fact that a thorax uses drones for a lot of its damage too? >.<
If you're really "specced" for a ship that uses guns AND drones I would say you're good at both.
I would say "drone specced" denotes higher drone skills..

you have a drone bay and you use them, but that sayd not many thorax users will never train drone interfacing 5 before to train to 5 the whole gunnery tree .. on the other side a vexor user before to train bedium blaster spec 5 will be sure to have trained to 5 the whole drone tree.
its obvious that both are usefull, but untill you are "full lev 5" and you have to train something. who use drones train fist drone skills since vexor is effective even with small blasters. Guns are not that important

Edited by: Amalthea Green on 26/05/2008 07:54:52 if you still sont understand let me show how a vexor should be fitted:
high: mix of small guns and neutralizer med: mwd, web, scramble low: DC2, 2x EANM2, 1600mm plate
dronebay: mix of heavy t2 and med t2
as you can see you dont need 10M skillpoint in the gunnery skills .....

Oh yes of course I should have known... theres only one way to fit a vexor.. ::rolls::
I understand that you might think "Vexor Specced" means using its typically most advertised role as a drone ship, but I believe in specced as in "proficiently being able to use all aspects of the ship.
That said, there a lot of roles for a vexor, even in solo, a lot of different ways to fit it. At your age I would imagine you're aware theres no "one way" to fit a ship.
Even for general use, I disagree with your fitting anyways. A lot.

Dont change the subject of discussion. U told to Liang that cannot it cant be "vexor specced" without be also "thorax specced".
My answer was proving that you can have EFFECTIVE pvp setups for vexor that dont need huge gunnery skills. So what Liang told was not an absurd statement.
You can be Vexor specced. If you like it or not its not of my interest. You might not like how vexor specced use the vexor , but others do and have good results with those fittings.
