Is anyone familiar with this anime? I found it on netflix's direct to download and im watching the first episode. What I am interested in particular is what sort of animation they are using. The animation for a character's skin and structures for buildings seem to be classic anime, but for articles of clothing and hair they seem to use some sort of CG where the body moves but the design remains stationary as if the design was projected onto a persons body.
Anyway, does anyone know what the actual name, if any, of the technique they used is? -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:

The Count of Monte Christo is one of the better books I haven 't gotten around to reading yet. Is it anything like the book?
(Movie was good, but they removed the end of the book and replaced it with a Hollywood ending and pretended that nothing happend).
I have no idea what that's called, but I know what you are talking about. But seriously, more people should have some type of spacer in their sigs to show it's not part of the post. |

Well I'm currently watching only the second episode but from what I can tell they started towards the middle of the story/movie, namely at Carnavel (sp), though already I can tell you they took some artistic liberties. Then again this story has been given that treatment quite a few times already. -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:

Agree on both points. It's an awesome series, but the animation style is distracting.
I've read most of the book, though I couldn't bear to finish it because I found it annoyingly French. On the major points where it differs:
* Centers the story around Albert rather then the Count * Set in the distant future, though with 19th century European styles * Which changes some minor details, like Noiter being part of a general rebellion against the government, rather than for Napoleon * Ending is totally different, though the basic point of revenge is still there * Starts in the middle of the book, with the Count meeting Albert, with the history of Edmond revealed towards the end (which you'll know anyway if you've read the book or seen any of the other few dozen adaptations)
It's far more faithful to the book than the recent Hollywood version was, though I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing as long as the basic outline and ideas (revenge) are the same.

they went to bump mapping this time, and went a bit more audacious, and slapped the fixed texture clothing on them.
needless is to say that the first 2 episodes caused some headaches to me, and some others ---

indeed, the focusing on Albert was actually nice, making the end very melancholic and good at the same time. ---

Yeah the animation was distracting at first but after the third episode I got used to it, have to say its a pretty interesting story so far (finished the fourth episode last night). -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:
