I just want cold, dark, black space. Why does EVERY system have a friggen super colorful nebula in them? They'd be so much more impressive if you only saw them in 1 of every 50 or so systems. __________________________________________________________

I thought the story-line for new eden's part of the universe is that it's in a stellar nursery, or young galaxy, which would have far more interstellar gas and nebula.

It still makes little sense that the space background switches between 4 different kinds, and it can be different from 2 neighboring systems, yet be exactly the same in hundreds of unconnected systems around the galaxy

Well keep in mind the graphics for the space background is 5+ years old. :P
In theory they'll get an upgrade as well, i'd like to see them much more dynamic.

As opposed to how they currently have one for each constellation?

Agreed. However, making them dynamic is going to demand more resources from the computer it's running on, bringing another flood of whinethreads of people that want/need EvE to run on a Pentium 1 or equivalent... But yeah, more dynamic, make space all pretty! \o/ ______________________ Sig starts... here. |

There should be options between the current mode, future updated graphics or cold empty black space for pvp.

No it wouldn't, create an algorithm that generates the texture, that way you can give each system a different look with minimal actual initial content (just the variables for the algo) for the player to download. Then as you enter the system the FIRST time it generates the fancy texture in the background and stores it in cache. That way you only have a little higher overhead when you first enter a system. And you only have to store those textures for systems you visit...

Well. 5 years old or not. it would make more sense to have them grouped in clusters of systems (regions would be an obvious grouping method) with the same background graphic shared amongst them.

For the most part, all systems in the same constellation already have the same background graphic.
If that were extended to the regional level, people would be complaining that there is not enough variety.
As for making the backgrounds dynamic: remember that we are taking about celestial scales here. Eve already makes enough of a mockery of the laws of physics. I don't think there is a need to add lag-endusing backgrounds to further that mockery.

yes it would, however the color is simply put in my the rendering computer to represent heat, elements and radiation they dont really look that way.
