Ive been playing now for going on 4 months, mostly doing missions with an IRL friend, and its boring the hell out of me. So I was wondering, howd all you pirates out there get your start? for the record - Im broke as hell after spending myself down to 9.5m isk on just stupid **** PvP'ing and fialing hard, managing a few solo kills and ransoms but losing most of it again. so this is half me being curious and half me asking for help with starting to get my yarr on

Buy stock of ships and fittings you can lose, then get jiggy with it.
Choose battles wisely at the start though, try not to get too*****y, or join a corp that will roam with you.
The more death and destruction you wreak(even if it's your own ) The more you'll learn. And the faster you will become liquid win. Sig locked, abuse of use - for more information mail [email protected] |

Join a corp good PVP corp who help you out. I joined OUTIM 1 month into the game and 8 months later i'm still in there. Just find a nice corp who will show you what to do and help you out.
Other than that you can just buy a ton of t1 frigs and go shoot stuff 'till you know what you're doing.

I know decently well what Im doing, its just that my current corp is not pvp oriented, to say the least. I basically joined up with my friend to get out of the NPC corp, and because he wanted to. Have any good recommendations on corps?
oh, and how goods the cash flow for your average pirate? not being picky, just curious

Buy a lot of cheap insurable ships, fit them all so there ready to go for when you get pwnt and. Join an active pirate corp that does regular camps/ops and make sure they divide the profits between participants. Also, I can't stress how valuable ECM drones are (for solo), if it gets too hot for you then wait for a jam and warp to your safe spot.

We are recruiting . Pay isn't always great, you might make a few mill a day off ransoms, just gotta be careful imho. Ofcourse sometimes you get that kill that nets you a few hundred mill or even a few billion (err rare).

Well, "good" beginner corps are hard, Noob Mercs might be a fun choice though, they seem like nice chaps.
Average pirates can make everything from nothing to a whole lot. Depends, start farming larger alliances that don't really care about you and you can make enormous amounts of money. Farm people. People usually go to BWF To do that, but it's a bit of a warzone now so It might not be so smart. Chokepoints are usually good ideas, espcially if it's a chokepoint on a pipe that leads directly from several or one alliances main hub or area.
Research a little and you'll earn alot. Sig locked, abuse of use - for more information mail [email protected] |

considering that Im making about that missioning and its far, far less fun, a few mil a day sounds great

Alternate suggestion:
Take Agony Unleashed Basic/Wolfpacks courses. Then you will learn what you don't know .
Its a good crash course in the basics. I still use some of the methods learned during the courses every day.
I totally disagree with buying crap ships with the expectation of loss. Make the other guy lose HIS ship. That is why the majority of EvE pilots huddle together like cattle and blob......they fit to fail as opposed to fitting to fight and win.
That 9 mill ISK of yours will be well spent...and I think AU will even help you rat the rest .

Guy above me hooked you up.
I took both shortly after starting EvE.
I am a reasonably successful outlaw....and one of the significant reasons for the success is down to basic stuff learned with AU (I vaguely remember leading a small anti-pirate patrol right after taking those courses...utterly awesome belt bait-gank...I was sooo new ).
Other significant reasons are the good pilots I was lucky enough to fly with in LV, F4T4L, and Veto.
Leverage that AU course(s) into getting into a corp that will give you basic combat ships for free with decent pilots to fly with. And then you can start building on the basics and learn more specialised fleet stuff (yuck...but good to know) and especially the fun pew pew--small gang/fleet.
And then when you fly as a pirate...fly as if you are running a business. Sound business practice does not include suiciding crap ships for the "learning experience" as many pseudo-outlaws/pirates on this board will suggest . If you are gonna do that...do it for some null-sec alliance that at least gives you T1 crap for free and ratting grounds to make ISK to fuel future piracy-related purchases .
Good luck.

Started popping into lowsec on day 3 of my trial in a Rifter. By the end of my first month I had applied to Veto. Was accepted almost a month later. Asked lots of stupid/strange/odd questions and had guys like Bone above patiently answer them to the best of their ability while trying to show me how it's done.
Then I hopped in an AF because everybody said they sucked and started killing as many larger ships as I could. Been lovin' every minute of it since.

i really got into piracy when i saw macros mining out belts from under HDY. So i decided to can flip and kill. Overkill got mad and i unpirated myself.
But the dark side had claimed me, HDY was then wardeced by a master of smack, Hawk Pride, who i then proceeded to chase around the galaxy in my Armageddon, many times his shuttle escaped me.
Then a trip to 0.0 which took hours our goon shaparones invited us to do a little t1 cruiser gang roaming. Itsoktoshootblues showed me and one other HDY the ropes to 0.0 pvp. At which time i got hooked left HDY and made headcrabs.
My first real lowsec act of aggression as actually in a system next to HDY's old lowsec headquarters, watched a pirate dock in station and be camped by two carebears in a carcal and a ferox. I convo the pirate and ask if he wants backup, we form a gang, undock together, primary the carcal, then the ferox. From then on i was a pirate, wardecing highsec corps. -------------

start off killing innocent haulers, see how you like the feeling.
Then just move up the ladder.. hit cruisers, then when your big and brave take other BS solo at the gates
I think my greatest solo camp I took 3 BS in a row, two of which fought back, my raven ended up on fire but was a dam big rush :)
Of course that was back in days before HP changes, dam CCP and their medling.

cruisers is the way to go if you ask me.
for a new player there still good tank and you dont go pop directly. you can hold your ground in the fight with a good tank. and the dps is good to break a reasonable tank.
always look at wat you are gone kill. dont go after a -10 pirate go after the carebears. everyone that trys to run is a good target for you :) --- Somebody needs a hug! |

1-Get a rifter 2-Get two friends (Yes, gang of three is the number. A group of two is too small, a group of four is hard to coordinate, a group of three is perfect). 3-Force one of them to get a ECM boat (Griffin) Or fly it yourself. 4-Roam, bait, kill, learn. 5-Go to the high traffic low sec systems. You'll die more, but also kill more ^^.

Edited by: Spectre3353 on 28/05/2008 17:16:48 (1) Choose a ship to love and cherish and gain decent skills for. There are lots of threads on the ships forms about which cheap frigs are good to start with (Rifter, Incursus, Kestrel, Punisher, etc). Learn effectives setups for the ship you choose as well as how to use it optimally. Learn what you and your ship can and cannot handle as far as opponents.
(2) Learn to use your scanner so that you can find other little fish to fight and avoid the big fish in their lame Megathrons.
(3) Find a good system or set of systems with high traffic so that you can find people around (or below) your skill level to compete with.
(4) Proft!
P.S. Falcord's three ship gang with a Griffin is definitely cool and effective but don't be afraid to go out solo. There is plenty of fun and action to be had even when you are all alone in a frigate or cruiser. ----- http://evenewb.blogspot.com/ |

when starting out don't be picky about what loot you take. My first weeks pirating were funded by taking everything I could. I often had to mass refine modules to quickly raise capital for ammo (though mind you cruise missiles back then cost a fortune) - Violence isn't the answer, it is the question. The answer is yes. |

wow, this is still alive? and top of the forum, too.
at any rate, I took an omen solo in a merlin yesterday. yarr missed out on a ransom though, some corpmates of his warped in and I was forced to run.
looking at the agony unleashed website, and it looks really good. do you have to take their classes to join the corp? I plan on taking their classes, at the very least, but I couldnt find anything regarding requirements to enter the corp. so hmm....more digging is needed
thanks for all the great advice

How did I get my start? Well.... my mother and father loved each other very much.... more than that I can't say without it being filtered by the bad-word filter.
Oh... you meant in pirating. ---
