I want to install EVE onto a 4 Gig Flash Drive. I read past (Pre-Trinity) threads that all you need to do is copy your EVE folder and it'll run.
How do I handle my profile being in the My Documents folder? Isn't there a switch to return it to the EVE folder?
Thanks!

I previously tried this using the sandisk variant, with a U3 file system, i managed to install EVE on to the flash drive, but same problem as you have. I could not get my profile to store localy on the flash drive and always ended up in Windows
I even tried by creating the #:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\ETC.. directories on the flash drive file system, but to no avail..
Any suggestions CCP?

I got it to work and the speed wasn't bad at all.
However is there a workaround for machines that don't have d3dx9_35.dll, and you don't have the user rights to install it?

If you don't have the user-rights to install it then EVE wont run (at least not without serious problems). I'd suggest asking whoever admins the machine to run EVE, which should install the missing files. After that you should have no problems. ____________________________ I break things.

Also, I really don't know how much disk operation EVE client does when playing normally, but bear in mind that flash drive have a limited number of write operations. Too much disk writing and you'd kill the poor thing! ----

I was able to copy the eve files folder and install the whole thing without a hitch. I got this from the forums about 6 months ago:
It works, but for best results create a shortcut to launch it with the "/end /LUA:OFF" options so that it will store the cache and settings on the flash drive as well, thereby leaving no footprint on that computer.
the only space you need is the size of your eve directory. basicly, all you're gonna do is copy the eve directory from your PC onto the USB drive. just go to where it's installed and right click the folder and look at the properties. should be about 1.5GB so a 2BG USB stick will store eve and you'll eb able to play it from there without any problems.
assuming that the PC in question meets the RAM/CPU/etc requirements of the game (i.e. as much CPU as it can get).
Yup I play off a 2gb stick and it works just fine, if you fill the rest of the stick with junk (after you've played a bit and got your overview etc setup how you want it) you won't get bogged down with logs either.
Once the stick is full EvE just won't log anything anymore but will continue to function quite happily.
EDIT:- Just a thought you will want a copy of D3DX9_30.DLL, from the C:\windows\system32 folder of your main computer, in the EvE folder on your stick, just in case it's not on the computer you take the stick to. -------------------------------------------
Note: I expect the amount of memory required for the EVE premium client will be larger, but I used a 4GB stick and had no problems.
EVERYONE SEEMS NORMAL UNTIL YOU GET TO KNOW THEM. |
