I don't know what to say! I'm flabberghasted and boggled! Thank you all so much for what you've said, I'm over the moon (the 3rd one off Planet IX in Kusomonmon to be more accurate). My friends who took part are also besides themselves with a big case of feelin' good.
I'm sorry there weren't any mirrors set up, I never expected this level of response. I feel kinda bad about Eve-Files grinding to a halt, and I must say a big-up to Ralle for hosting the vid for me so people can get ahold of it.
I love Eve, I've been here since day one, and I'm glad I could put something back into the community. Although it does sound like the factional warfare expansion is being delayed by about 40 minutes * the number of devs in this thread and then some! I might just take you up on that offer of beer one day
To answer a few of the random questions and observations, in no particular order:
Yes I built all the Half Life 2 maps. I've got screengrabs of some of the "work in progress" shots in Hammer and in HL2 itself. These are slated to go on the website, along with an "about", some stuff about the cast and crew, and an FAQ that covers a lot of the questions that I anticipated being asked.
One I correctly anticipated was - why the default HL2 characters? My response is: Because they were there. I can do sets, and camera shots, and nice external space views, I like a good bit of scenery, and I have figured out some of what is needed to tell a story through the medium of film, but one thing I canÆt do is artwork and modelling. A manÆs got to know his limitations, as Harry Callaghan once said. This project has taken up a huge amount of my time as I pretty much did everything myself. The idea of teaching myself a modelling package and building a plausible human and skinning it makes my stomach knot. The project would never have happened if that was a prerequisite. Plus, added bonus, they have all the gestures from HL2 ready to roll. So I didnÆt need to do motion mapping and stuff either, which would have been so far beyond the scope of this project, it would again never have taken off, or indeed, undocked.
Think of them as the same actors in different roles. And the same clothes, admittedly, but hey.
Another question I anticipated was the voice acting quality: Well, itÆs me and my friends. We arenÆt actors, but we are mostly into games, scifi (Stargate SG1 and Firefly 4tw!) etc, and are intelligent (honest guv'nah) and have overactive imaginations. That and the main crew parts were written as if we were bickering at each other while playing a networked game of something anyway, so mostly it came naturally. The goal of this whole project was to give myself a creative outlet and have some fun at the same time, and that has truly been achieved! All my friends who were involved had a whale of a time and loved the results so that makes me happy. We arenÆt exactly the cast from OceansÆ Eleven or Heat, but I think we did pretty well for complete noobs. You should hear some of the outtakes from the voice recording. I almost had enough wood to build a shed.
And the accents are British because, heh, well I'll let you work that one out
And finally, in this epic wall of text, how long did it take? At a rough low estimate, 1500 hours. That's half a year solid at eight hours a day. No, I don't watch TV. Yes, I'm single

Got it with an average of 202kbps, guess I got on the mirror wagon fast :)
Some great script, felt like a film for everyone with Eve in jokes and I loved it for that :)
"they must have...cleaned the windows or something..."
perfect!
With a full range of professional voice actors you could make this something else.

Brilliant.
The best thing I've seen since beta.
Thank you, that just made my day
The full 10/10, but TBH, this sets a new standard. Something others will have to come EVEn close to.
Thanks again, that was awesome, to all involved.
/emote goes to watch it again ...... --

Really, I hope CCP let us do this one day, walking inside the ship and all.
I'll be done with animation and modeling school in 2 years, come on CCP you know you want a 3D environmental artist modeling the insides of each ship :)
