Exams, summer weather. I'm sure alot of people like to go outside and enjoy some sun every once in awhile. Personally, I fear the big burning ball of fire in the sky but, eh, to each their own.

The summer argument makes no sense, half the world is in winter right now.
Eve is dieing because of blobs, nanoships, lag and blobs of nanoships.

Although that is true, the greater majority of eve's population resides in the half of the planet that is in summer.

A ton of vets have departed, it's only sooooo long you can enterntain yourself with the same game, lack of new exciting content makes people slowly fade. Lag sux but i don't think people actually leave the game because of it. At the same time CCPs marketing efforts are improving by attracting tons of fresh meat. Yet again, it must be dissapointing to them seeing lame-a$$ wow having 10mil players while EVE which is a superior product can't even break 400k mark.

Could be people are getting tired of lag and desync not being addressed, and this expansion isn't exactly designed with veteran player retention in mind.
Plus keep in mind that there are people likely PO'ed about the GTC changes as well.
We'll see. Most MMO's die of a combination of old age and a thousand pin*****s of Dev mistakes. EVE's Dev team definitely have made a huge mistake in the last 6 months producing this... nonentity of an expansion while ignoring cries for bug/ui/lag/desync fixes.
This is so eerily similar to Star Wars Galaxies just before the massive game changes with the CU and NGE, the existing game was being neglected and left buggy, and the next expansion was being talked about to lukewarm enthusiasm. People started to drift away then. Not saying that CCP is dumb enough to "Combat Downgrade" or "New Gawdaful Experience" EVE, but they definitely are going for sizzle instead of steak.
Fixing flaws in the game might not win you many new subscribers. But it sure as hell retains existing ones.
My opinions are my own and do not reflect those of my corporation or alliance. |

Fresh meat reporting for duty sir! New player here, so far I am really enjoying EVE Online (have played many MMOs such as Lineage II, WoW, Final Fantasy etc..). EVE, and only about 1m SP in so far, to me has better content and realism than all the rest.
WoW gets so many subscribers for one simple reason. It's a very easy game with instant PvP (It's a rubish game, it really is). EVE, from what I can gather so far, takes some effort to get something out of it.

I blame: Summer Exams Pre-expansion fatigue
Come winter, we will se a return to "regular levels", and possibly more new players as well.

I was generalizing more about game mechanics than anything else, almighty sharp one. If you really wanna pick the statement apart I think theres a better chance of mankind colonizing space than the world being rule by elves and orcs. I could be wrong..

Are you sure? Sooner or later all EVE players that actually stay more than a few months end up in the "endgame" phase, which is 0.0 alliance warfare and that is pretty much broken right now. So what else are they supposed to do?
As for new players, it's increasingly hard to attract them with a 2003 game even with DX9 graphics updates when the UI/usability and performance is far behind current games. EVE is a niche game now and CCP needs to understand that you don't keep niche game players happy by spending millions on advertising while ignoring years old bugs and lag (i.e. quality).
EVE Online: a cold, cruel world where (RL-)rich people replace their losses with GTCs sold to poor students who need to farm ISK to afford their play time ...

TQ population graph
Um, that graph implies that the population was rising at this time last year, and that we've lost 5K people from this time last year.
The graph is a bit hard to read, but I also have noticed that there's rather significantly fewer people on when I log in. I've also noticed that Ships & Modules has a much lower post rate than it used to.
I dunno, I'm not doom saying - I know that I'll eventually get my stuff together and perhaps return to Eve full time (after the move), and several of my friends are considering returning for FW.
