So...
I like scanning, don't ask me why.
But I have, in the last couple of days, found 80 rookie ships and 40 shuttles.
I have even found a genuine spaceship graveyard, containing over 40 random frigates, shuttles, ibises etc.
So I have two questions;
1: Why are these ships abandoned?
2: If I collect them, will anyone buy the rookie ships? The shuttles and frigates are understandably on the market already, but it seems a shame to waste all these ships...
...and I recall reading recently about a guy who was selling them...
Thanks for any input!

Don't see why anyone would buy rookie ships, seeing as you can get them for free.
On a side note, does it annoy anyone else that unmanned ships appear on the directional scanner.
The minute you come within 14 AU of a POS, the scanner becomes almost useless :S

a cache of shuttles and T1 frigs could be big money depending on what region you are in, and if you are willing to collect and repackage them all
you can remove abandoned ships from d-scan by removing them from your overview.. somehow ~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application. |

What I've been wondering is why so many n00b ships get dumped at stargates. Seems like in some regions of high sec every stargate you pull up to has an ibis or two left out to rot like some kind of interstellar trans- camaro rusting away on blocks in front of a double- wide on some rural route somewhere.
As for selling them, that guy collected a couple thousand of them IIRC and sold them via contract. They buyer only bought them for the comedy value, so I don't know that that market is necessarily a huge one. ___________________________________________

Thanks for the input folks...
The ships I have collected are all near pipelines, so I may take a few into 0.0 and see if they sell as shuttles with slots.
Will keep searching for the 'motherload', but I have to say, the ship graveyard was quite a sight. 40 ships within 100km of each other.
As a professional trader, I must find something spaceship-related to do for fun, so I think I'll stick with scanning for now...

Edited by: Marlenus on 30/05/2008 18:45:36 I keep all the noobie ships I collect in my hangar, and use them as "cargo shuttles" -- disposable shuttles that can carry a dozen or so times more cargo than a standard shuttle.
They are great for running a few cheap goods, like second-best-named guns, down a dangerous pipe to a market where you can sell the goods for quadruple their empire value.
I'd never buy any though -- I always have more than I need. ------------------ Ironfleet.com |
