Edited by: Last Wolf on 01/06/2008 17:48:00 So I'm way to lazy to register on some tech support forum, So here goes.
I've recently built my very first computer. Of all the problems I thought I'd have, Installing windows was not one of them.
I'm trying to install Windows XP Pro 64-bit edition onto my new computer, But there is a catch. I have two SATA HDD's in RAID configuration using my motherboards onboard Promise controller. The windows installation disk can't find my harddrives and won't complete the setup.
Well My motherboard manual says to copy the drivers from the included CD to a floppy disk and.... HOLD IT.. a floppy disk? Last time I had a computer with a floppy drive was last millennium (literally).
So after a few google searches I found Nlite. I imported my drivers to a custom XP installation disks.. and it WORKED.. windows installed, rebooted my computer then the Windows logo flashes for less than a second.. and it reboots. Won't start up in SAFE MODE either.
So a few more google searches and I'm still stuck. Everything I've found is how to fix a windows installation that used to work, Mine has NEVER worked (Windows asking my to "Use last known good configuration" makes me chuckle)
I Don't know if it is Nlite, my Hardware, my drivers, my luck, or that fat guy across the street, but something is keeping windows from working and I'm out of ideas.

Edited by: Last Wolf on 01/06/2008 18:29:03 I have 4gb of ram (2x2GB) installed atm.
I guess I could try to install it using only 1 HDD and see if that is the problem or not
edit: Reason I got 64bit is mainly for more RAM in the future (my mobo supports up to 8 gigs). __________________________________________________________

everything else i've read says both vista and XP 64 bit editions can support up to 128 gigs of RAM. (Assuming you have either 4x 32gig RAM sticks or a mobo with 64 memory slots (2gig each)
I did the research and made sure all my hardware and my mobo had XP64 driver support before i bought it.

Vista is just annoying, I'm gonna try make XP strech as far as possible. My G/F has vista on her new computer after having XP for several years, and she hates it. She's probably never read a single forum in her life and never plays games, so she hates it out of pure experience. No "Vista Sucks" bandwagon for her to join. Hopefully Windows 7 will be out before I have to upgrade again. __________________________________________________________

Linkage
Also I went out and bought a floppy drive for $11.00 lol
I've narrowed it down to the RAID controller. It works just fine if I have the drives in a non RAID config. __________________________________________________________

YAY! I FINALLY got raid to work. I had to just use the SATA raid and not the Promise SATA raid ports. Kinda makes me sad that i have two useless SATA ports on my mobo. __________________________________________________________
