I have Storyline mission Special Delivery where I need to move 3 cargo items, 500 each...none of my ships have over 420 cargo size. Do I have to drop this storyline mission (ouch).

train for an industrial, should not be hard to do in the time alloted since these missions give you a week's time to complete them

a few frigates, destroyers and cruiser can have over 500 space with "expanded cargohold I", which is much easier to get than an industrial if you already have frigate|destroyer| cruiser skill.

Industrial 1 takes about half an hour to train and is definitely worthwhile, and not just for the stupid storyline courier missions. It just makes things so much more convenient when you're relocating between agent bases to be able to dump all your crap in a hauler instead of making multiple journeys in a smaller ship.
Also, if you really don't want to haul it yourself, you can set up a courier contract for a friendly corpmate to move the stuff for you. You'll still need to travel to the destination yourself to deliver the goods, but the courier items themselves can be contracted.

I got this mission when I was trial, and since you can't train Industrial as trial, I had to make three trips with an expanded cargohold Cruiser. It was like 8 jumps into low sec too, but I ended up making it alright, heh.

Imo, train for whatever hauler of the race you are playing asap. It makes things much easier.
I trained for Badger II and T2 cargohold expanders simply because I wanted to move a different agent and noticed I'd have to fly my stupid destroyer back and forth like 20 times.
