Having been Podkilled twice by punks in Blackbirds recently, I am now looking for a little payback. What is the best PvP Ship config (up to Cruiser- can't even begin to think Battleship yet) to take one of these things apart?

Well it depends if its 1vs1 and whatnot....
You need to know if and how he is going to jam you...
If he is using dampeners, fitting a mwd on any top tier cruiser will allow you to get in range and overpower the bb...
If he's jamming sensors, then fit an eccm or a sensor booster for your sensor type, use a moa, thorax, or rupture.
Moa: make sure you can always fire all your guns... ie he can't jam you, and youll out damage him.
Rupture: let him jam you, but pack 2 heavy launchers with FOF's and an assault launcher with defenders. Use the defenders to take down his missiles. I defeated a bb who had me jammed that way... You have to be willing to take some damage tho. Oh before I forget, have your drone bays full of drones and release them at first sight of your target... this is a must.
Thorax: MWD, Shield booster and a web. a mix of 8 heavy drones... If he has you flly jammed, your heavy drones will still chew him up, provided he does not manage to kill them quickly.
Again, this is assuming your opponent is trying to jam you. Best thing for you to learn is to get a BB and understand how it works.

You should be able to kill a blackbird in a rifter or a breacher or something like that. Unless he has a web he'll die.
You could also use a caracal. You'll need FoF missles in case he jams you, but 4 heavy launchers and 1 standard launcher with defenders should do in a bb.
Or you could use a bb yourself, put on a sensor booster and some jammers and jam him before he can jam you.
A thorax with heavy drones and blasters should also do in a bb pretty easily. Your drones will continue to attack him even if you get jammed.

My BB took 7 cruise missiles with no tanking. That's what kind of damage it will take.

I took a 1on1 vs. a BB on TQ once. I used a BB myself. Fit 3 heavy launchers with cruise missiles (have FOF in cargo). Using the third for defenders wouldn't be so bad either (providing defenders skill is lvl 4, rest is just too slow). Then fit EM and thermal ward, medium shield booster II, mwd and 2 medium shield extenders. Use the lows for either gravi backups (I don't recommend it), or for cap relays. That setup got the other BB down in no time, while I still had some 1/4-1/5 shields left and enough cap to boost it up.

easy bb has 1 advantage and thats its 6 mid slots so it has alot of jamming options its shields and weps are fairly weak and most pilot rig up for jamming use a caracal he'll jam u fof him iwth 4 cruise missles + 1 defender or 5 fof cruise use a mwd and avoid his missles if your good 2 or 3 volleys will kill it

Taranis. I've killed two Blackbirds 1v1 with it.
'Course, the pilots were Massive and Aerick Dawn, so you be the judge on how much of an achievement that is... ------------- My salsa makes all the pretty girls want to dance and take off their underpants. I <3 ( . Y . ) |

Try this Moa setup:
4x Heavy Launcher with FoFs 2x who cares
1x Warp Disrutor 1x CL5 1x Shield Boost Amp 1x Cap Recharger
Then either PDUs or Cap Relays
You'll hit as hard as him and last a lot longer too. It would be better if you knew how these guys were setup. Did they appear to be using MWD or EW? Use the above setup against EW. If they were shield tanking the BB that changes things.

Usually a 12 gauge with birdshot will do - but I have used a 20 gauge and a .410 as well.

Edited by: Phaethon on 07/05/2004 01:39:07 If they are shield tanking try some energy neutralizers. A tank with no cap is no tank.
Don't use vampires, as they are still bj÷rked, but some medium neut's should fit on a moa or cacaral launcher config.
Of course you need to think about your cap and his possible EW use. But a moa with some medium cap batt's and low slots with relays can drain a cruiser quite fast and still have enough cap for launchers and shields.

A Breacher with targeted and FOF cruise missiles works nicely. Orbit at around 15km and start firing cruise missiles. When the BB jams you, then switch to FOF missiles and continue. If you fit a 20km scrambler you can stop him from leaving (briefly, because you won't have the cap for it), but (surprisingly) about half of the BBs I've fought with a Breacher stayed until the end (and I don't fit a scrambler)...

Heh, I had 3 Blackbirds and a Raven after me the other day, all of them together it took to kick my Bellicose out of the system.
If all they use is ECM, they arent going to be much of a challenge to kill. ____________ Sex / Rank 9 / SP: 1280 of 2304000

Have you actually used that Moa setup? It might work if the Moa actually had 4 launcher slots...

Should fit in a caracal though. Except for that you have 1 free highslot and not 2.

Well this is easy.
Get in something that can with stand some damage even if you get jammed.
Then hire a bounty hunter to come in and flank them with Torps.
They stop worrying about you and turn their attention to the other guy coming in, and then jam the BB back while the bounty hunter takes them out.
Quick easy and efficient. I'm sure you could hire a bounty hunter for just the loot found on the BB's. Especially for that kind of a kill, torps will rip through a BB in no time. |

Oops, mismatched a Scorp and Moa's high slots. And no, I've never actually flown a Moa.
Substitue Moa for Caracal and run 5 launchers with FoFs, problem solved.

/me agrees...
Take a breacher, with a mwd and a 20k scrambler. You will get first lock. quickly tag the BB with ur warpdisruptor and launch 3 paradise cruise, the BB should have armor damage now, atleast if it has a mwd. Reload with either explosive cruise or FOF cruise if he jammed you. The scrambler will last ~25-30 sec, and BB's usually dont use warpcores cause they need cap relays for some energy, so hopefully it gets pwned before the disruptor effect wears off...
I did the exact same tactic a while back but with a Stabber vs BB, with 3 nano's and 1 mwd it has enough speed to outrun missiles and you can fly circles around slow caldari flying bricks ...but frigates can run mwds much longer.
i think thorax VS bb is gonna be very close...a tanked up thorax might just win, but what if the bb kills most drones in 1 volley with his torps :P
