My guess is you are using and Intel Extreme graphics chip as either an onboard card or a laptop. Eve does not support this chip as it has no hardware T&L (Transform&Light) Either disable the onboard gfx (if you can) and use a PCI card that has T&L (FX5200 and Co) or replace motherboard with one that has an AGP slot and fit the bigger nVidia boys (note read my post about video drivers) Or maybe use...PAH!...an ATI.

I've got the same problem, isn't there a way to turn Transform and Lighting off ?

I get the same error message but it pops up when I'm trying to enter space. How do I find out what graphic/video card I have? I have a new HP Pavilion a420n PC with windows xp.
Thanks

Edited by: Zorrander on 11/05/2004 11:51:21 To find out what videocard you have:
Right-click "My Computer"
Select "properties"
Select the tab "Hardware"
Click the button "Device Manager"
Click on "Display Adapters"
That's the card you have installed on your pc.
It's probably a intel chipset card.

No its part of the engine and it will be VERY unlikely CCP will 'patch' it.
My advice is when buying a new PC sub ú700 take a very careful look at the system specs..avoid onboards totally.

I think its a shame that the Authors won't make patches to run on graphics cards that dont have hardware t&l. It doesnt sound like a major mod to implement an option to "short circuit" the need for advanced hardware. Its not like you really need it to play the game - the graphics afterall make up only a part (imho a small part) of the gameplay.
The client, in the absense of required hardware accel, should degrade performance gracefully perhaps with a warning dialog box. It certainly should not crash with generic runtime error boxes.
If I can run other 3d stuff on here (intel gm/gme graphics) it ought to be a simple matter to fix the issues that prevent me from running this game - even if that means degraded performance, less pretty graphics, etc as you dont need them to play the game.
I wonder if they'd object to me loading the game in a debugger and stepping over the offending code! I'll have to read the eula
In any case, I hope the developers read this and reconsider their position of not supporting hardware - it would bring this otherwise excelent game to a much wider audience with, from what I can see, very little effort from them.

If you want to play games on your comp, go buy a graphics card that is meant for it..
Even if you can get it to run without Hardware T&L, you will get massive client side 'lag', 'cause your card doesnt have the speed to handle the game, making it unplayable..
Reverse engeneering and modifying the client is not allowed btw.

Edited by: Multiplex on 14/06/2004 08:18:07 Well arent we mister obvious. Heres the thing - I have one computer that can play it and one that is a laptop which cant play it and cant have the graphics card updated in the laptop as thats not possible. As for reverse engineering, Id hardly call it that - and modifying definitly not.
The graphics engine should degrade gracefully in the absense of hardware accelerated features not bomb out with runtime errors. The simple undeniable fact remains that you dont need the wonderfull graphics in their full glory to enjoy this game - Im merely saying to the developers, why not implement a simple option to short circuit the need for hardware t&l so that this game can at least run on their unsupported cards.

Hi,
There are tools available that will emulate transform and lightning hardware on your computer. It is very useful for running T&L games on video cards that have not on board dedicated circuits for T&L calculations. It will load your CPU with the calculations so beware of bad performance.
One example is 3D Analyze.
Good luck! _________________________________________________________

Edited by: Multiplex on 15/06/2004 07:23:48 Thanks for the idea.
The program functions as its supposed to but the crash still occurs. Interestingly enough though, I can start the game whilst docked into a space station with no trouble - even without 3d-analyse. Its only when you enter space that problems occur.
I've tried the various options to 3d-analyse but to no avail. Any other ideas other than 'buy a better whatever' most welcome!

Well, I've been getting this same error after the last patch, so I wonder if they're related somehow..
If I leave for 5 minutes and there's no chat or anything I get disconnected and get this error. Also happens randomly when trying to undock..
Oh, and it's def not the graphics for me, I'm running nVidia GeForce 7800 GS..

Almost perfect..

this eroor and problem has nothing to do with onboard graphics there was a huige thread that has been ignored and buried by the devs regarding this error that only started affecting some people after the last patch unfortunately ccp doesnt seem interested in fixing there game for the few that are unablee to play since this problem after all they get enough money from isk and macro farmers why worry about a to them 'small' minority that are now unable to play. my friend hasnt been able to play due to this for nearly 3 weeks and his petition is still unanswered.
