Hi, I never gone into science and industry so I have no idea how it works, but I may start dwelling on the thought and trying it with an alt. The only question I have is about blue prints; I see there are so many skills in science and I am curious if there is real research and development, i.e. can you create a BPO out of nothing just by research alone or must you purchase one to start creating items or ships?
Thanks.

You can buy unresearched BPOs off the market. The item database is useful in this regard, as it contains pages that show which NPC corps sell them. You can then look up the corp in-game and see where its nearest station is.
If you look on contracts, you can also find blueprints that people might have researched. Researched or used BPOs cannot be resold on the market. If buying from contracts, make sure you don't get mixed up between a copy and an original, as this is a popular scam. My research services Mineral compression for carrier/Rorqual pilots |

The answer is yes and no.
While you can't create new BPOs (like inventing a new ship), what you can do is take a copy of a Tech I BPO, and with some skills, datacores and an interface, use it to 'produce' a Tech II BPC of a 'better' version of the item (chance based, so you won't always produce one).

Many of the skills you see in the Science section are used for T2 invention and production. For generally improving (mostly T1) BPOs you need science(copy time), research(PE levels), lab operation(more research slots), and metallurgy(ME time decrease). -Xonox Pulsar Combat Supplies, Director of Production and POS |

Edited by: Abraham Mosby on 02/06/2008 19:57:55 If you fail the research what happens to the BPO? Is it lost in the invention process?
If you do ME on a BPO and then copy the BPO does the copy benefit from the ME research?

When doing an invention you use BPCs, BPO's can be used to make copies, but not in the invention itself. BPCs are used up in the invention process, as a matter of fact while doing invention all the input materials except the data interface are used up regardless of whether you are successful or not. Using the materials gives you a chance at getting back a T2 BPC

Yes, BPCs have whatever PE and ME levels that were on the BPOs they were copied from.

Thanks to all for the help, now I have a better understanding of the concept of science.
