This was originally written to appear in the Eve Tribune, but the editors never got back to me. I thought since there had once been some much attention placed the Racketeers it was only fitting to tell their final story:
The Racketeers had long been feared as one of EmpireÆs most premier pirate corporations. Having seen victories over Axiom, Privateers, and Omni Federation along with the distraction of numerous corporations and miners in Caldari space the Racketeers were not a group you wanted to run into on the battlefield. They were particularly known for their dirty tactics and smack talking which can be contributed to nearly a half trillion isk in damage done across the galaxy. But their childish ways have in many ways caught up with them.
The Racketeers core was made up of approximately 20 extremely skilled and dedicate pilots with many others filling in the ranks. The majority of the internal power however resided with the US players, namely RenegadeRacer and HellÆs Reclaimer. With the core European players feeling frustrated and left out. Ed Kraka, the informal European leader, took it upon himself to organize their mutiny.
It had always been tradition in the Racketeers to eliminate a weak link within the corporation. Generally speaking this was not an issue, but however this habit had gotten out of hand. Naturally this resulted in a lot of unneeded tensions within the corporation. Combined with multiple wars that were not going well the European players choose to break out on their own.
The loss of Ed KrakaÆs three billion isk faction fitted nighthawk which was more or less left out to dry for the enemy was seen as the breaking point for the Europeans. It was not long after that Ed led Renegade out in his nighthawk into a classic gank betrayal. However, the true loss was on Ed who as a result was petitioned for extensive isk buying and reportedly now has a comfortable negative eight billion isk balance.
With the European players leaving to form The Mutineers (how fitting). The Racketeers took it upon themselves to rebuild. Generally speaking the rebuilding process was quite successful. It also saw the return of the original Racketeer ceo FreddyJnr (also defected due to US - Euro issues a long time ago).
However the rebuilding process was just too much for the core of the Racketeers. The veterans lacked the patience to properly train the massive amount of new members and had a hard time sitting on their hands when it came to punishing their poor performance. Thus resulting in RenegadeRacer stepping down from CEO and returning power to FreddyJnr. With the change in power came a mass exiting of many of the core US players. This left the Racketeers strong in numbers but weak in quality.
Seeing an opportunity Ed Kraka and the Mutineers struck the Racketeers in an extensive campaign which inflicted massive casualties to the poorly led rookie pirates. After weeks of being bogged down the abandonment of Racketeers members served to be the final factor to undermine what once was a highly skilled pvp corporation. In a matter of two months the Racketeers went from nearly 100 members to a lonely 25 inactive members today.
IÆm sure many individuals are happy to see that Sobaseki and surrounding areas will no longer be swarming with Racketeers. Although just as Darkness Inc. moved out of Sobaseki for the Racketeers to fill the void there will undoubtedly be the emergence of a new pirate corporation to fill in the gap in the area.
The Racketeers stood strong through countless hard wars over the past two years. Their downfall truly is proof that the demise of a corporation (or alliance) is a result of the internal issues that tear it apart.
Note: I am a former Racketeer and was either around during these events or herd them third hand by those involved. I hold the upmost admiration for the Racketeers and their former members. This truly was one of the finest PVP corporations empire side.

We left because they (team america) were being douchebags. The catalyst that made us leave was when they gave a senior member and a good friend so much **** after losing a ship. He left, but got invited back and participated in the mutiny.
Also, 2 months of rak vs muts should be 3 weeks.
edit: while they dont like to admit it (and never added the last campaigns against us) we beat Repo twice.
rest is pretty accurate i suppose. good read.

Nice story.
Couple of minor corrections:
- I lost a faction fitted Vulture, not a Nighthawk and it was lost (along with about ten other ships) despite valiant efforts from the Euro guys to save it (damn lowsec pirates)
- wallet balance is positive, thank you very much
- The breaking point that finally caused the Euro guys to leave the corp was NOT the loss of a faction-fitted command ship. The final straw was the abysmal leadership coupled with the self-obsessed, bullying and overbearing attitude of three members (namely Eratem, RenegadeRacer and Hell's Reclaimer) - both in-game and on voice comms - that bred huge discontent and caused long-standing members to bail from what WAS a successful hi-sec griefing corp under Freddy Jnr's leadership. Contributing factors were also incessant gabbling about POS-running alts from Hell's Reclaimer, constant bleating of "you douche" and lectures about tennis (!) on Ventrilo from RenegadeRacer, sycophantic giggling from Eratem, and of course the random killing and podding of new members for no real reason.
- We did not see an "opportunity" to strike. We started when we were good and ready to do so; the MUTS campaign against Racketeers lasted three weeks, not two months, and stemmed from a desire to clean up the mess that RAK had become. We were successful.
- RenegadeRacer did not "step down" as CEO - he handed over the reigns of a dying horse to the ex-CEO Freddy Jnr, sadly too late for Freddy Jnr to rescue anything.
RAK was good once - let's hope that someone else takes up the griefing soon.
And yeah - we beat Repo twice

Thank you for your input guys. Since this was intended to be in the tribune I made a point of simplifying the story some. Also given that killboards were down and I was slightly out of the loop I didn't have the finer details regarding the mutineer war.
One question though: why did the mutineers decided to destroy what was left of RAK when those that you had a gripe with where elsewhere?

Sucks that your corp died... not to be a jerk off, though, when I was a total noob, with a total noob alt in Lonetrek (Airkio, practically right next to where you guys used to base out of Sobaseki) I remember you guys having a couple of can flippers who would run around being total ******* smacktards, likely trying to provoke anyone into replying as instigation for a wardec (even though we all know no such instigation is needed...and this was 6-7 months ago, I don't remember the one particularly smacker's name anymore).
Made me despise the RAK ticker before I ever heard of you doing anything worth hearing about... just sorry I didn't get to actually see any of it. Good luck with your eve futures.
Figured if people are going to speak their memories over the casket as this old dog is laid to rest, might as well get mine off.

Here's the deal from my point of view:
In early 2007, 20 members of The Wailing Doom were pretty sick of all the crap that came with living in 0.0 so we decided to set up an empire corp. targeting noobs, miners and role-players. We had no interest in alliances, capital ships or mercenary contracts.
I recruited heavily and we had over 100 active members after just a few weeks as a lot of people liked the novelty of the idea. We had a lot of players who were just starting out, a lot of experienced players and a few alts of players in 0.0 alliances who just fancied a change. We used to put out 20-25 man gangs on a regular basis which would be a mixture of experienced and new players. It was never a place to be for anyone who wanted to make isk or gain "respect of the EvE community". RAK was purely about fun at the expense of others.
In September last year, I wanted to stick to the plan and looked to take on a number of noobs from a corp we had raped in a war. Certain RAK members decided they didn't want to deal with noobs any more, in my opinion forgot where they came from so I had no choice but to resign as CEO and hand over to RenegadeRacer (an original founder). A few guys came with me to Highwaymen which then evolved into Black Podding. I couldn't stay away from RAK so around Christmas I came back. I noticed the killboard and numbers looked great. Shortly after I rejoined, the then directors opted to join the alliance "sex panthers" The Europeans really didn't seem to like this as I think they found it pretty tough to deal with the outright stupidity of those in "Muffin Factory"
Not only were RAK now in an alliance but the American directors had started to pod their own members just because they didn't like them. The Europeans decided to gank RenegadeRacer and Eratem before starting their own corp "Mutineers" (note I'm now in that corp)
While the killboard looked nice and there seemed to be an active player base, the truth was that there were about 20 Europeans and 10 Americans actually still in the corp. After the Mutiny RenegadeRacer and friends decided they didn't want to baby-sit the new crop of noobs I had hired so left to create their own corp "Night Crew" (That's the reason I was given anyway)
As for MUTZ deccing RAK, we never had an issue with it. We wanted the targets and we wanted it to separate the wheat from the chaff. Myself and Ender Wiggins no longer had the time to continually recruit to replace members we lost so we decided to go our separate ways.
It's a real shame but the fact is that while we all founded and joined RAK with the same goal, something got lost along the way. If you are the leader of any large organisation and care about it's future, you should always make decision for the good of the majority, not just listen to three or four of your friends (especially if one of them is a wheelchair bound 65 yr old who spend $3000 a year on a game just to hear the sound of an 18yr old boys voice) "The Racketeers' downfall truly is proof that the demise of a corporation (or alliance) is a result of the internal issues that tear it apart." I would call that issue "Hells Reclaimer"

The Racketeers were nothing more than a bunch of griefers and scammers who preyed only on those far weaker than them and thus, got an inflated sense of ability. Going down on an internal squabble about which one of you rats were best is pure poetic justice.
Anyone want to predict the date the Privateers suffer the same fate?

There certainly was plenty of that, but there was a lot of real pvping going on and took on many capable advisories. We did anything to get a kill, I certainly reigned down my fair share of terror in Todaki and enjoyed every minute of it.
It really is a shame to see RAK end , that was the most enjoyable time that I have had in eve. A good thing certainly can't last forever.

Your right about RAK there but MUTS is a low cost mercenary corp as far as im concerned.
Although we do not operate like REPO, we dont have strict rules as far as what our pilots do when the WT's wont undock. If they want to go flip cans, who cares? (apart from the miner stupid enough to jett mine)
The reason we are cheap is the simple fact that we love to pvp. The majority of our members have flown together for over a year, some even longer. We are organised and capable.

I think RAK created a fairly low risk environment to learn how to PvP effectively with low skill points. Ideal for new players who were unsure about committing to a -10 sec status or the 0.0 life. It provided an alternative to mining, pirating and POS refuelling.
I say good luck to MUTS and Nightcrew (especially RAT and Freddy) as they are the next step in the evolution of RAK, not it's demise.

That's true Freddy. When they repeatedly don't listen it gets kind of hard to keep saying "please do what we say" when all you really want to do is blow em out of space. Some of the new guys were OK. But I did have problems with one of em. I really hate "your momma" jokes.

Thanks for posting this it is very interesting to see the background and to understand what was going on with you guys. For information we were contracted to attack RAK at almost the same time that The Mutineers left the Alliance. The different timezones made it difficult for us to face each other with even numbers - if the time zones had been the same it would have been a lot of fun.
We were also contracted to chase The Mutineers who were pretty good at empire fighting but quintessential wind up merchants (ain't that right Ed  ).

I appreciated the OP until the responses came in and it turned out he skipped the whole joining Sex Panthers bit. I can't imagine having to fly with those clowns, never fought them once but still know of them from the epic levels of noise they make on this board and in local..
PS I always alt post in C&P, its shameful to read this board.

Why does anyone even want to keep in corps with such leadership? Some people are such sheep. Yeah they can mount a gun and blow other people up, then beat their chests about being uber at pvp. And still they behave like sheep.

My time in RAK was excellent, but MUTS is much better. More organization, better kills and just a much better atmosphere. You know it's a great atmosphere on vent/EvE when you wake up at 5am each morning just to play a internet spaceship game with some Euros

This is where i should say something nice about hell's and his 8 other char's but there is nothing nice to say about him.
There is however, alot of bad things i could say about him but i wont say that either.
So i'll sit back and let him think im still ****ed about a wallet that has been green for months now and continue thinking he's a wheelchairbound 65yo that spends all his retirement money on GTC's and subscription.

Would love too, But with the timezone difference we dont seem to have numbers on when you do and vise versa, Plus as with you we have other wars ongoing.
