Securitized Loans ================= This idea basically has people putting up assets as collateral for loans. They might not be able to pay it back, but thats ok. We pool the risk and divide the pool up into the bonds with different risk categories. We make money on the securities transaction costs.
"Prediction Market" Systems =========================== This is like the foreign exchange market or Intrade. Basically the financial instruments don't have significance, it's just a betting system. Please see the website "intrade.com" or "tradesports.com" if you don't know what this is about. This would be the easiest to implement, because I think it would definitely make money. I don't like it because its less sophisticated financially, but it's what I'll do if I can't think of anything else. One question is: how to decide what to bet on?
Shipping ======== This isn't a financial system at all, it's just another business idea I had so I'm throwing it in. You could make a shipping service, but much more organized than most by using a package scheduling algorithm like real shipping companies do. You would deliver to a handful of public stations owned by the shipping company, and people would purchase shipments at known rates. This is an operations research problem, so its tangentially related to computational finance because of the similarity of the mathematics involved. Again, the fact that UPS isn't constantly attacked by pirates changes the nature of the optimization problem though. We'd need to have complicated insurance policies.
Anyway, I'm going to try to think of/build something so I can be rich (hopefully!). I'm curious what feedback you guys who know more about the Eve game mechanics/market think, and if anyone would be interested in helping out.
Thanks! Phocas

Futures would probably have the same fate as options trading...just not enough interest/volume to justify it.
I would recommend you read a bit more of some of the threads around here as well...some of the ideas you've thrown out already exist.

EBANK has the secured loan market corned, there are numerous high sec shipping services and a couple of low sec ones and, if memory serves, someone went so far as to setup an out-of-game futures exchange. Despite being decently put together I think it died on account of lack of use.

Futures are used alot in EVE, just not in the mainstream financial derivatives sense. Probably because there is no sensible ingame system for them. - MORAN TRAYGA - |

It's sad though, it would add a unique dynamic to the commodities we use in EVE but designing such a system around what maybe 3% of the player base would use ....well I'm not going to hold my breath for it. |
