Basically I am trying to fit my geddon as follows for 0.0 ratting and survival,so if someone catches me in a belt, I can survive until help arrives,as half my corp hangs out if the same system, but I'm running into issues fitting everything that I desire.I've had to drop a HSII for a reactor control unit, and am not training Energy GRid upgrades 5 for RCUII,but unsure whether whether even that will solve the problem, any suggestions?Proposed build is below.
[Armageddon, Ratting] Heat Sink II Heat Sink II Heat Sink II Medium Armor Repairer II 1600mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Damage Control II
100MN MicroWarpdrive II Patterned Stasis Web I Heavy Capacitor Booster II, Cap Booster 800

Use dual heavy modulated pulse laser, and then you can fit a large repper 3 HS is too much i think, drop a plate there instead, you will survive much longer

At very least, use an X5 webber - otherwise you wont slow down fast ships an awful lot when they come into range. -------

Edited by: Grarr Dexx on 03/06/2008 07:38:32 Don't bother with that ship. It's built to gank, and while it can resist the 0.0 rats, it's pretty much a wet towel after that. Use Dual Heavy Beams, still gives lots of oomph at the range rats will spawn.

I know, Stasis Webifier are useful, but not an Armageddon, because practically no one will get into your Webbing Range and even with MWD, you are too easily outmaneuvered.
Leave the tackling to ships better suited for it and concentrate on heavy firepower. Use a Tracking Computer in your medslots and Tech 2 Mega Pulse Lasers.
With Scorch Crystals and Tracking Scripts you have 45km optimal and if you switch to range scripts you extend your range even further.
The problem with Mega Pulse ll is, that they will eat up your CPU, so I suggest you switch to adaptive Nano Platings instead of EAN.

Edited by: Rellana on 03/06/2008 12:15:42 I don't have the skills for t2 megapulses,or Scorch crystals yet,or I'd be using them.I've already had a bad experience with being jumped by a vaga, that entered my system, when I was engaged with a 3x 1.55mill rat spawn, and managed to take me down before support could arrive,so I've based my setup,on suggestions from here,to combat such a thing happening again as the pirates in our sector love using the things.I use my mwd to close tange if the rats spawn at 60kms+ as they frequently drop 800 charges for my cap booster.

Which rats are u fighting against?
If these are EM/Thermal weak, then laser are ok. Use your big drone bay, for Vespa ECM medium drones. These should be enough for breaking the lock and warping off against a Vaga or another predator.
Use something like: 7x Mega Pulse (modulated = best named) + Prototype Cloaking device 100MN AB (or MWD if you wish) 2x cap rechargers LAR II - 3x rat specific hards, 3x Heat Sinks II, 1 cap relay II
Rigs CCCs
AB is enough IMHO if you are ratting close to your homebase and improve cap stability a lot. U can switch ammo, carrying infrared or standard for smashing frigs and cruisers while approaching the BSs, and then switch to multifreqs and burn through everything. Blood / Sansha do not fight that far away anyways... Join the Biggest Greek Corp! www.Mythos-eve.com - Join Mythos Channel in game! |

Buy an Apoc. The Geddon really is best in a pvp role.

Edited by: Andreask14 on 03/06/2008 13:15:45 The apoc and abaddon are just so much better for just double or tripple the price.
In one of these you could easily tank the vaga, kill the rats and wait for your buddies to bail you out. The geddon cant do that.
The geddon is more like a big golden hammer you whack somebody on the head with when he least expects it. Preferably a raven.

If you're belt ratting close to home, you honestly don't need an AB or MWD. MWD is good for burning back to gates if you find yourself in a trap, but if you're not traveling far, and your battleship has only 3 mid-slots, I'd leave it at home. If the rats are like 60km away, just move on to the next belt. You also don't need a webber... you have the Hobgoblins for small fast targets.
What you might consider is a warp disruptor in the mids, especially since you're planning to be in situations when you can call for backup.
Cap booster, heavy neutralizer, and 1600mm plate are PVP modules. So is EANM, unless you're in Angel or Rogue Drone space. That's OK, given the situation as you described it, just be aware that for optimal ratting you'd go with a pure resistance-and-repair tank instead of a buffer-omni-tank.

If I could aford to buy a apoc or addadon and fit it for 90 million I'd do that, otherwise I'm working on a budget, until I can get some bounties to top up my otherwise depleted bank account.Otherwise some good solid advice.

If you can afford an armageddon then you can afford an apoc. If you dont have the 30 mil extra to buy a vastly better ship for ratting then you shouldn't be ratting in a battleship to begin with. Honestly I'd try to give you a helpful answer but the truth is that geddon is a terrible ratting ship and there are no good fits for it for that purpose.
Ask a corpmate for a loan if you have to, but an apoc will get you through the rats much quicker and make you a lot more money. It's survivability isn't a ton higher but the additional money you make will definitely help ease the pain of the occasional loss. If you really don't want to lose the ship then you could go for a super tanked abaddon but that is both much more expensive and less profit per hour as the apoc's range bonus lets you use higher damaging ammo at longer ranges.
You want an Apocalypse.

I would not call the Apocalypse better for Ratting. If you have the Skills for it then the Armageddons Firepower will make short work of all Rats that have an EM-weakness.
While the Apocs Range Bonus is nice the RoF Bonus of the Geddon is more useful for ratting.

Ratting is about warping through belts fast (= plates do not match) and high-dps to kill rats fast. A cloaking device adds a lot of survivability too, tho in most cases being in a belt when a predator appears in local is not possible (due to rats aggroing you). So fast warping off to a SS or a planet is also a nice "feature" plates do not allow.
The fitting posted above for the Geddon is pretty solid and tasted against Guristas = probably the second-worst pirate type to farm against. If you get the hang of it you can use 5x Wasps I heavy drones (for guristas or choose rat-specific) and kill BSs pretty fast. The CCCs and BS skill are your friends. Packing some long range crystals like standards or IR is nice too...standards or UV provide nice cap-usage / dmg balances, and you can 1-salvo frigs and stuff while approaching the BSs with your AB. Tracking is pretty good for that with proper skills, and no frig can evade popping past the 30km or so. Under 20km MFs will bring down most rats pretty fast.
Do pack an AB, even when ratting close to your home-base. Even Apocs cannot reach rats that fight further than 40km with decent dmg potential, and scorch L is not always that easy to get, thus consume every 1-2 ratting days. Using no ammo is supposed to be a Laser platform's advantage - make the most of it. Using scorch against EM/Thermal weak rats is not that inefficient, cause these melt pretty fast Join the Biggest Greek Corp! www.Mythos-eve.com - Join Mythos Channel in game! |

What I've noticed is, unless you have custom bookmarks for all the belts, you're most likely to warp in at... 40-50 sometimes 60km away from the rats. I thought, hey, why not use Mega Beams instead? And so far, damn, I'm chewing through those rats, but yeah, I'm using an Apocalypse instead.

i would say stick with the geddon, with highish skill this thing melt face.
7 DHPL best you can get 1 cloak(hide)/salvager(more iskies!!!)/tractor beam 1 AB (big!) 1 CR 1 web/tracking comp/warp scram/second CR 1 Large rep T2 3 resists (active 2 heatsinks 1 cpr 1 damage control/istab(faster warping if you want that)
as many ccc rigs as you need to permarun this then no more rigs(keep it as cheap as possible)
i recomend the salvager if you are close to your base as you say...just anchor a can in the system you rat in at a SS as a drop of point and then get it all with a indy when the can is full...
if you are futher away from your base or dont have much backup you can call in i recomend useing the cloak...as soon as somebody enter local warp to an SS and cloak.
