Hey there, have not been in eve for a few months, (been keeping a eye on it tho, and still training skills, getting the pesky learning ones out the way while I can't play.)But any way, I am wondering if there are any turret ships that use passive shield tanking. I ask this cause I am kinda interested in making a lol setup (just a bit of fun) by putting lasers on this ship ( Don't care if the lasers are bonused or not, as I said this setup is just for fun ) This can be for any race up to BC.
So yea... Does any one know of any passive shield tanking turret ships? (By the way, I'd prefer to not have to use rigs) (Also sorry if I don't make much sense or its just a wall of text, pretty tired)

The myrmidon can be passive shield tanked, but usually you put lots of SPR in the lows which kill your cap, which you need to fire lasers.

mmm, passive shield tanking kills your cap as stated above, you would be much better off fitting projectile turrets. Then you have quite a few choices

Hmm, I forgot about those damed SPRs in the lows... ... ... ... ...
...! Maybe the Ferox, Should be able to put a half decent shield buffer on that. As I said, I don't care if the weapon does not get a bonus, just want something for lols, and maybe just to catch some one off guard. (IE: they see my ship, assume I am using the bonused weapons and they are tanked to em, all of a sudden they get pounded by em/thermal which end up being there weakest resist).
I think 'm just rambling now...

hurricane with 425's works well myrmidon can work ok with AC or blasters, less so since regen time was extended ishtar relies more on speed tank for pvp tho could probably have a decent pve shield tank gank domni with neutrons can work well with shield tank and friends to tackle
however it's the rigs that really make passive shield tanks shine.

i fly a passive lasermyrmi since the ship was introduced and it's nowhere near as cap unstable as people (that obviously never tried it) believe.
myrmidon
4 pdu 2 2 spr 2
3 lse 2 1 invu 2 1 10mn ab 2 (second invu for ae bonus room)
6 heavy pulse laser 2
2xogre,2xhh,1xhg
capstable with standard, damage 480, defense 207 wo rigs\405 with rigs. -------------------------- harbinger
2 pdu 2 3 spr 2 1 hs 2
2 lse 2 1 l fs-9 se 1 invu 2
7 heavy pulse laser 2
5 hammerhead 2
also capstable with standard, damage 494, defense 194 wo rigs\ 379 with. ---------------------------
myrmi works really well, never tried the harbie but doesn't look that bad either and relies more heavily on gun damage.

Kronos, Mega, Navy Mega, Domi, Hyper all work with Hybrids. I see no reason why you couldnt fit lasers. Though I just noticed you said BC max size, well both T1 Gallante BC's work along with the T2 versions. The key to turret based passive tank ships is just to use a few more PDS's modules over SPR or fit a cap booster. ____ Telltale sign of their presence is non-linear teleportation (www.eve-online.com/races/theodicy/Theodicy_All.pdf)

Edited by: Knobbing Everyone on 03/06/2008 11:42:35 What about the Rattlesnake? It get's a rail bonus along with missile bonus, though railguns do use cap. Rattle does passive tank quite well though...
Edit: didnt notice BC max size...suppose Hurricane can also work...

Might be out of your price range but the Sansha ships are shield tankers with lasers, not sure how well they'd passive though. ---------

Seeing quite a few interesting set ups here, I'll start trying some out tomorrow night, bit to late and tired tonight... and have the damed morning shift, tho that does give me the rest of the night off, But then theres another bloody open. Oh!? sorry started rambling again...
Any way, As I was saying see some interesting setups. Also when I said "up to BC", I meant in general, BS setups a good to see, but I can't really afford to be messing around in BS yet.(Both isk and skill wise) Guess I need to get back in game and go carebear, just need to get better missions and stop stuffing around trying to get people to shoot me.
Dammit, there I go rambling again, any way keep the setup coming.
Oh and if you want, feel free to donate any lol ships. Also if you are still reading this, I would just like to let you know you have wasted about 6 or so seconds reading this, 9ish now. |

Omg why aren't more people posting the broadsword????? It is THE turret based passive shield tanker. 5% resistance per level, the amazing minmatar t2 shield bonuses, plenty of mids, the vagabond's falloff bonuses... this ship is EXACTLY what you are looking for...

For the lulz...
Shield Power Relay II Power Diagnostic II WCS
YT8 Mwd V-M15 Braced 'Benefactor' x2 Large Shield Extender II
Dual 150mm II x3 Arbalest Heavy Assault
Hobgoblin x5
...on a Celestis. Replacing the rails with lasers would give it more of a disco banana theme and quite possibly increase the lulz factor significantly. "That piece of fruit is shooting fire!" does have a certain Monty Pythonesque quality to it and having to fly it into web/disruptor range to be effective at all... well, that's the punchline that puts it over the top.

Edited by: Bronson Hughes on 03/06/2008 15:05:37 Myrmidons have a good slot layout for a passive tank and they don't have any gun bonuses so you're only 'wasting' one bonus instead of two. Hurricanes have one less mid slot for their tank but have the nice double gun damage bonus to projectiles. It's hard to get a 'good' passive shield tank on smaller ships; it's usually more effective to fit for speed (frigates) or buffer HP(cruisers).
Passive regen shield tanks (i.e. maxing out resists and peak recharge, not so much buffer HPs) are usually not wonderful performers for solo PvP. You end up dedicating a most, if not all, of your low and mid slots to your tank which leaves you with very little cap (or a weak tank), low DPS, and limited tackle options. If you're in a gang with tacklers it's less of an issue as long as you focus-fire on any hostiles with cap warfare.
EDIT: Passive shield tanks + lasers ~ bad idea because you either run out of cap right quick (SPRs) or have a crappy tank (no SPRs). -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

the problem with the broadsword is that you run into pg probs pretty quick thus you can only fit the smallest pulses with no drones as addon so you end up with something like 200 dps and the tank isn't that great either as you can't fit many lse. for solo pvp maybe try sthing like that:
myrmi
2 spr 2 4 pdu 2
1 lse 2 1 invu 2 1 10mn mwd 2 1 scram 2 1 med cap booster 2 (400)
6 hvy pulse 2 (an mf)
3 ccc 1
2 ogre 2 2 hh 2 1 hg 2
capstable with boosters, mebbe replace a laser with a nos. needs awu 3 or a pf imp. damage dealt is over 500 dps and shield a bit over 200 omni. (from my experience most of the time ppl will shoot a myrmi with explo tho)

Pulses? Pulses? On a Broadsword?
The ship has no issues fitting everything it needs to fit plus ACs, which it gets bonuses for, and can sustain cap-wise together with invulns and a WDFG which both eat up a fair bit of cap. Why on earth would someone fit pulses on a broadsword?
Edit: just read the OP would like just like pulses for the lols. I guess with PDUs instead of SPRs it could fit and fire, even though it's a horrible idea

Edited by: Mizz Wolf on 05/06/2008 01:33:21 Try this:
No lasers but an amazing passive tank. Also, even with low SP you can run this with all T1 stuff and it works -very- well. I've tanked noob BS pilots in it with only the T1 fittings. Not the best PvP loadout, by far, but great for missioning and ratting.
