After getting back to this game after a couple of years of im starting to intrest myself in some pirating. But what are the cons of being a pirate? At some point you cant travel in empire space anymore? Is there a way so you can raise you standing again if you want to? How do you buy ships ifyou cant travel into empire space, build your own or do you haul them with alts? Anyway it seems like a blast! I have been training skill from time to time so im a bit up to date but how well will an old soldier do in battle? I bet im not having half the skill points as some of the others.
Now on to the ships, I still have my old Megathron since old but I bought myself two new ships resently that sounded intresting but I dont know witch one is best for pvp. The new ships are a Hyperion and a Heavy assult ship called Deimos. The Deimos looks intresting but how well will it do against lagerships?
I have blaster skills more or less maxed out so I think I will go that or os railguns better in pvp?
Thats a lot of questions but I cant wait to get into some battle with all these new T2 ships out there.

BLASTERS!!!!!!!111ONEELEVENTYONE
...that is, unless you plan on sniping from outside gate-gun range (although you NEED 425mm II's IIRC) Blasters are the higher-DPS weapon for gallenteans, and as such, should be used because you want to kill your target ASAP before gateguns *****you/his buddys turn up etc.
The hyperion has a very nice rep bonus that will help for tanking gate-guns, but the deimos is generally a glass cannon - it's built for getting in close and causing carnage with a full rack of T2 blasters, repairing any damage after the fight. However, you will have to be careful with it against battleships, because of their insane DPS and/or strong tanks.
As for pirating pros/cons...
Cons: Negative sec status (prevents access to hi-sec) Possibility of getting blobbed/hot-dropped (although not that likely) Can be difficult to find a fight Can be hard to sustain losses without PvE.
Pros: Negative sec status (Many pirates see -10.0 as a status symbol) Can get lucrative rewards from module/cargo drops Some very exciting fights --- Sig Starts Here --- Lord Haur - Imperial Academy Logistical Support

Edited by: Cerebro on 03/06/2008 21:03:18 So im better of smooking someone at a astroid field than at the gate? From what sec level is it "safe" to attack and are the gate cannons something that will couse a lot of problem if I start gate camping?
So how do you raise you rating once it get low there is somepoint where you wont be accepted into high sec space anymore? Is the Megathron better than the Hyperion DPS wise?

Edited by: Mara Rinn on 04/06/2008 01:15:05 From what I've seen, the main "con" of being a pirate is being locked out of hisec. http://eve.grismar.net/security/ - FAQ about security status and system security, starting off with a list of what system security you are locked out of at a particular security status.
By the time your sec status is so low that you're blinking red to everyone, I'd expect that people would be avoiding you simply because they perceive you as being dangerous (in the same way that people will avoid a rabid dog) even if they could actually take you on. Blinky red is scary.
Hope this helps.

Edited by: Tzar''rim on 04/06/2008 07:27:30 Don't think you need big ships to kill others, in fact until you really know what you're doing big ships are just a liability.
If I were you I'd get a Thorax and play with that for a while, also try a Vexor and see what you like best. When you figured that out you know which HAC you want. The Ishtar is an amazing ship but doesn't work well at gates. Deimos does great damage but has a few downsides, thing is since you force your way onto someone those down sides normally aren't a big problem.
Stay as small as you can be and as big as you really need to be, being 'oversized' just means a bigger loss when you lose it. And you will since you're effectively a stationary target.

To non-pvpers perhaps, to the rest blinky red = free target

You will be hunted by other pirates and pirate haters like myself. Of course, some pirates consider this a pro, saves them having to look for a fight -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Legion of Shadow is looking for recruits. |

From what you have said, I can conclude that you don't have much, even none PvP experience.
Best thing to do is, grab a cruiser sized ship, insure it and fit not se expensive stuff on it, then go roam the belts. While there are no possible targets, go rat to keep the sec status up.
After you lose 3-4 of them, join a pirate corp. They will show you the right things to do.

The "cons" for me, based on my experience from turning pirate just a couple months ago are:
1) I don't watch as much TV anymore. 2) I can't run missions anymore because I would rather shoot people... 3) I can't do anymore mining because I would rather shoot people... 4) People running from me when I try to shoot them.

But how does the autowarp work if you cabt enter highsec? Do you have to manually enter your route or does the computer make a route around the high sec areas?

You can change your autopilot settings to "prefer low-security systems" by hitting F10.

This sound fun might give it a try. But is there a way to get you sec status up after you hit -10?

Tbh, the sec status drop isn't that huge of a deal if:
A: You have access to rat in 0.0 at all.
and/or
B: You don't kill pods.
Also, if you join a Corp that usually resides in low sec, you could run missions for Guristas and such to gain sec status back. (if they reside in areas that have agents of course)

Every empire faction has missions agents in its lowsec space. However ratting gains more secstatus then running missions.

This is true, and useful for having your route's gate light up in yellow. But as for the actual autopilot (which I'm guessing is what was meant by autowarp) - well, I'd think that autopiloting through low-sec is probably just as dangerous as jumping into highsec as in both cases you will almost certainly wake up in your clone bay.
