Bug report it. No point petitioning since it didn't do any damage and thus didn't contribute to the loss of the pod.
But bug report it, including logs and any/all details you can remember at the time - they shouldn't be on a pod mail full stop. By reporting it, you'll be able to assist them to fix this bug. NPCs shouldn't fire on pods under any circumstances but there are occations when they do - these can be petitioned if you lose the pod. --

Sometimes when your ship blows you take slight shield damage on the pod, maybe that rat got the last shot before the ship popped or something. _ EVE RELATED CONTENT |

Thats not shield damage, it's where when you enter your pod your skills take effect and so your shield hp amount increases....

I've seen NPCs inflict very slight damage on pods. At the time I thought it might have been because of NPC missiles which were in flight before the ship exploded.

Dude the NPC didnt pod you. you were obviously ratting before hand and the rat did some dmg to your ship. It was a bit of a bug that it got on the pod km but it doesnt mean that it poded you.

Typically when you get "podded" by an NPC you don't get a mail, although I don't think its happened to me since the new KM system.
How its always happened to me was a ship being popped right as you get the Docking message, and instead of your pod docking or your pod sitting in space, your ship blows and the server doesn't spawn your pod, it just puts you back in your clone station as if you had been podded. Probably some sort of bug in the way it handles your ship transitioning into a station. This isn't limited to just NPCs either, I've had it happen to me and I've done it to people in PvP situations also. ------ // This is by design. When a ship jumps through a gate, it clears all aggression. // - BH ******** Pew on gate, if it gets hot, jump through and Ctrl-Q. Game mechanic endorsed by CCP. |

whether or not it did damage is irrelevant, the fact it's shooting at pods is what's broken.

The very slight damage on pods comes from engineering skills. IE, when your ship blows up, the pod is spawned with stats from an unskilled pilot. It then applies your skills after the pod has been spawned. It just so happens to be that the shield capacity bonus skill causes only your max HP to increase, not your current HP. The same thing happens when you join a gang with someone with Siege Warfare skill as the gang booster.

It's basically the same thing that happened when I helped kill an guy a few weeks back, I didn't lock his pod or fire on it, but I lost sec status and showed up on the pod mail.
Petitioned it and the GM's said basically that I was full of crap and the logs showed me podding the guy (not that I have anything against podding, i was just fixing my sec status at the time and dropping it like that was lame)
What I would give to get it on fraps some time if it happens again just so I can laugh at the GM who told me I was wrong |
