Hey guys
I've been through a bunch of different help channels to try and get an answer to a problem that I am having within planetary interaction. So far i've had no luck
To briefly explain, I am extracting materials from a planet and I am aiming for above 3k materials per cycle using the 1 day 45 mins extraction to get the longest extraction time on a 15 min cycle
In order to accurately make sure that I can get a good amount of time above the required 3k amount I am using the graph which if you hover over each little bar of the graph is tells you how much material each cycle will pull in
Before I install the program, during the process of locating the hot spot and setting up my extractor heads, for atleast the first 8 hours of extraction the graph is telling me that each cycle will be above 3k. I have sceencapped a picture here to show you what I am looking at: http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/784/pi1a.jpg
The problem that I am having is that the moment I click on install program to start it running, the graph completely changes to tell me that I will struggle to even get cycles aboke 2k: http://img600.imageshack.us/img600/774/pi2w.jpg
Between taking these two screenshots the only thing I have done is click on install program and bring up the graph. As you can see the numbers have dropped dramatically, giving me a very unproductive amount of material per cycle
An explanation as to why this is happening would be so very much appreciated. |

What are your planetology and adv. planetology skills at? Before you install the program, the numbers are based on the actual yield modified by your skills, whereas after the program is installed, they numbers are just actual production - no modification. |

My planetology skill is at 2, adv planetology is at zero.
On that same planet, I have another extractor running. Before and after I install the program I get the same numbers in the graph, just with minor differences but the averages are still the same. The one that I am having the problem with drops way below half when the program is installed...
Surely if it was to do with my skills I would see the same issue on both extractors?

Also, I found an explanation on the eve wiki for what the planetology skills do:
The skill Planetology increases the accuracy when scanning planets for resources. This is visible in the number of gradient bands displayed on the planet surface when scanning for a resource (requires Remote Sensing L3).
I cannot find any link between the planetology skills and the figures given when surveying for extraction amounts. |

Those skills affect what you predict. After you hit install all the numbers are set. So the graph after hitting install is 100% correct.
It also affects the heatmap display. Click this http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/9405/piplanetaryskils.png Blog |-áTutorials | Youtube "I donGÇÖt know everything, I just know what I know." |

@invictra
I am unable to view your first post. Is there anywhere that you've found where it says that the planetology skills do this?
Without evidence that this is the case I find it hard to believe because all 7 other extractors that I have running on 3 other planets have very minor changes before and after installing the extraction program, whereas this one extractor jumps to less than half when installed...?
I'de very much appreciate seeing that the planetology skills effect the actual surveying stage rather than just the scanning stage.
Cheers for the help, Donny |

The system is probably build like this:
- In an area 8x8 there are 64 Nodes that contain resources. The value of each can be 600-1100. - your 1 day program has an extractor head that covers 8 Nodes at any given time - All 6 nodes are at a value of 600 and 2 are at a value of 1050 (average extraction 712,5) - your planetology skills will tell you how much resources are there in an 16x16 area. - the 16x16 area contains 256 nodes and 90% of them have a value of 1030
So basically no matter where in that 16x16 area your extraction head is, your skills will always tell you that you can extract ~1030 units/h, but once you install the progrem you see that in reality you are extracting 712,5 units/h Blog |-áTutorials | Youtube "I donGÇÖt know everything, I just know what I know." |

Just to make it easier to understand, the graph you see before you accept everything is what your character thinks he will be getting because of his knowledge in planetology and anvanced planetology. The graph you see when the extractor is running is what you really are getting. The difference is there because the heatmap you see is not the real distribution of the minerals but only what your charakter thinks it is.

Riiight, okay I think I get it now. So basically, it's not that planetology increases the amount of gradients in the colours when you move the scan slider up and down, it's that i'm actually not seeing where the hot spots really are... therefore it will directly effect the end result of my extraction amounts...
That would explain why the rest of my extractors don't appear to be underperforming anything like the one that we've been discussing, i've just been very unlucky with this hot spot and more lucky with the others XD
Thanks a million for clearing that up!
