Unless your standings are high with the station you are refining at I would just suggest that you mine Veldspar. It is the most common and does not have any risk mining it since it is in high-sec so that is probably your best bet.

Velrdspar is good enough for a starter, and if you can afford to stockpile, it will worth a lot more very soon.

Hmm. I have been stockpiling ore of every kind. I just started the game and I am training for another ship on 1 account and training refining and what not on my hauler account. I had nothing to use the money on so I just started saving it and not refining it. I figured Id wait until my skills are higher in refining. I think I have a few million ore saved up of each kind. Maybe I will become instantly rich.

I was checking ore prices in everyshore last night (dont ask) and trit prices were falling like a rock.

Stockpile trit because if you have a tone of it you can ask for a higher price and make more of it. If someone buys 1 mil trit he is more likely to buy it from one station then 20...

Right now it still seems most profitable to mine Veldspar. there was a time when Omber made a miner a good living, but not lately. A lot of miners don't consider Jaspet worth the risk right now, and Omber just doesn't turn the profit that Veld does. This will vary region to region. If you do mine Jaspet, I've always found it easier and safer to keep a separate ship in the low sec system rather than flying in and out. Also best to have a corpmate or two ride shotgun. A Hulk is a terrible think to waste.
I'm currently on a Scordite binge since the Pyerite prices are rather high in my neck of the universe right now.
As stated, since it costs you nothing to run a mining op (unless you're using crystals), I'd mine the Veld and stockpile it. I'm thinking there will be a lot of frigates that need replacing when FW starts, and I'm hoping the price goes up a bit. I'm sitting on about 70M Trit and 15M Pyr, waiting to see what happens. Also sitting on about 200 frigates which I am moving (12 at a time) to a location next to the new Black Rise region.
Do the calculations for each of the ores with your % refining and see how they pencil out. I can't speak for all regions, but I have a constant buy order up for Veld and Scordite. I try to set the price higher than what a new miner can get from refining on their own, yet low enough so I can still turn a profit, when I refine.
As always, this information is worth just what you paid for it.
