Hi I've been playing EVE for 2 or 3 weeks now, really enjoy it. I picked Gallente at the start and have been concentrating on mining to make myself a few million isk and training my skills up. Here's the question, do players buy ships from different races? Like I said I picked Gallente, but what if I fancy a Amarr ship. Is it OK to do that, or is it even possible? If it is possible, would this effect anything in the future like joining a corp or faction? Any input is appreciated

Yes you can train any skill/item in the game, no matter what your race is.
Some roleplay corps/alliances might want you to stick to a certain race's ships, other then that, no problem.
My main combat char is proficient in 3 races' ships, for instance.

Poeple do it all the time. All you need to do is train the appropriate skills for the ship. Jus pick up a skill book for the races frigs and train it and you can start your way to flying that races ships.

Thanks for the quick reply guys. I thought I was only allowed to use Gallente ships. Excellent news

Don't forget that other races use other weapon systems. You'll have to train those as well. Support skills (engeneering, gunnery skills for turret ships of all races, etc.) will be usefull on other ships as well, though.

What Koranta said. The various ships give certain bonuses and when you roll the same race as the ship, he usually starts with skills that match. So while you can train for any ship, keep in mind the inherent bonuses of the ship because you will want to also train in the skills that take advantage of them. Fine if you are a jack of all trades, but someone with a specific development goal is not going to want to take many detours.

I trained amarr and gallente (I can fly all sub BS ships but interdictors and heavy interdictors). The implications of training another race :
-Look how that race usually tanks (including speed, armor, shield) -Look at the weapon systems the race uses (including drones, missiles, all types of guns) -Look closer to the ships you really like in the race and the equipment they use (minmatar have a bit of all tankings, has ships using projectile weapons, missiles, drones in different proportions, etc.).
So, I began with gallente and had good skills in gunnery, drones, armor tanking, that's why I went for the amarr (and for the nice looking ships). I had to train for lasers and most ships worked fine.
Next I'm going for minmatar because half the ships can armor tank properly, and I'll learn shield tankin the process, then I'll be ready for caldari...
If you're going for the T1 ships and equipement, it's not a so long path, but when you go for the T2 ships, it takes a fair amount of time... -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast !
