Not really. The server is starting up again at the moment (yay). I daresay all manner of tasks are performed during downtime. We can only speculate. But the downtime is there for a reason :)
I'm fairly sure they do database backups and put in mini-serverside patches during downtime. Don't hold me to that though.

I have an issue with this "solar reset" everyday. And it takes so long to reset while everything is in dark and waiting. Anyone know who I can talk to about it? The only reference I can find is someone that turned it on. But not any documentation about the "dark^1^1^1downtime".

When in doubt go straight to the top. So Oveur if he's still around or some other high up GM/Dev peoples. But I honestly think you'll waste your time. They wouldnt have this downtime without a reason.

Well that sorta sucks, but unfortunately this has been the downtime hour for as long as I can remember. You might get lucky with timezone changes for DST soon but thats about it i'm afraid

They should do what every other mmo does, bring the game down for 4-6 hrs a day, one day a week.

Email CCP with your request, i live in the U.K and downtime used to come during my lunch hour, i emailed and asked nicely and they moved my DT to 3am-4am so i sleep through it.
Handy but flying through space alone while everyone else has a DT period is kinda lonely.

Sorry they can't do that due to the way game works... Just think about all the drones and other stuff people litter space with every day. It would produce very large amounts of lag. Go get something to eat, call your family get some sleep, go shopping under the daily DT...

The servers performance wasn't good for the last 12 hours or so. I'm glad they took the time to fix it. I'd rather have a longer DT than a sluggish server for 23 hours.

But, if there wasn't daily downtime, how would I know when I should be going to bed, and not whoring the forums? I mean, I keep going, but I have that 4 hour warning on when I should go to bed.

And.... What about the hour after you get home from work? Or the hour right before you go to bed? How about staying awake an hour later to play then getting up an hour later to compensate?

The daily DT is between 7-8am for me, right before work. All I do is switch my skills right before I leave for work at 8:30. I'm fine with it.
If you can't live without the game for one hour, you might have a serious problem.

Well, rumor has it that the in Iceland, that hour of downtime, is traditional Icelandic naded dance time. They run out to the streets, shed clothing and enjoy beer and then run to the sauna. After this event, they run to the local store, buy cream cheese, smear it all over themselves and then run around town screaming 'I'm a bagle!'. This series of events takes about fifty-five minutes, they then spend the last 5 minutes, getting cleaned up and dressed, and head back to work.
So, you'd need to talk to the people at the bars and markets to make sure they dont sell beer and cream cheese at those hours.

I work as a system administrator. I can tell you that sometimes the best way to fix an issue or speed up lag is with a reboot.
I would love those people who complain to do what CCP does for a day. I wonder how quickly people would change their minds and appreciate the technology and knowhow that goes into running something as complicated as Tranquility.

Why can't downtime be between the 24th and the 25th hour, when time stops all over the world for our own downtime. And the beings controlling us from their computers whine that their virtual reality MMO company has to have downtime.
