I like blasters. A lot. I'm starting to get more into the PvP side of EVE so I'm wondering either to stay Caldari or train up Gallente. The biggest change aside from armor vs shield tank, is bonuses for caldari ships usually either have damage or optimal bonuses while Gallente ships have damage and/or turret tracking bonuses. The increased range for Blasters with the optimal bonuses sound pretty handy but I dunno. Would going for the tracking bonuses (and armor tanking) be worth the investment for PvP?

Generally speaking:
Gallente = drones and blasters Caldari turret ships = railgun sniping
Doesn't mean you can't make effective use of blasters on Caldari ships, but the above is what they're really optimized for.

well, do blasters need a tracking boost or is that bonus more for show?

Don't forget Caldari can also use missiles, wich are also generally better than rails. But anyway, back to the point... I'm awesome :D |

I like missiles, but they just aren't nano compatible.

beware that blasters rely more on falloff then optimal as do autocannons and perhaps even pulse lasers

At close ranges, maybe, but generally not. __________________________________

If you are fighting in falloff while using blasters, your doing something wrong. The only time you should be fighting in falloff is if your webbed badly and using null to try and hit them from 10km+ . Even then its not that great.

The closer the range the more difficult to track (for obvious reasons), so yes. But that's not the big issue. Blasters are all about high dps, and most Gallente turret ships have more damage bonuses than equivalent Caldari turret ships do. I think the only exception is the Enyo, which has one 5% per level damage bonus just like the Harpy. But the Enyo would still have a little more damage unless the Harpy pilot has Assault Ships 5, since the Enyo gets its bonus from the frigate skill.

Edited by: Stuart Price on 06/06/2008 02:34:03 If you really, really love blasters, you need to seriously consider training Gallente.
A ferox makes a decent blasterboat but the Brutix is better at it. An Eagle makes a surprisingly good blasterboat but the Deimos is better at it.
Arguably the only Caldari ships that outperform/stand equal to their Gallente counterparts are a harpy (blarpy) and a rokh (blokh).
Even then you have to consider that harpies have all the disadvantages of other AF's and that Rokh's shield tank. For gangs, remote repping is king which strongly favours the armour tanks found on mega's and hype's. Also, the Rokh simply doesn't cut it solo thanks to having to sacrifice a lot of tank or ECCM to fit tackle, whereas a blastermega is an excellent soloship.
Also, gallente ship tend to have much better drone bays, which really makes a difference up close and personal. "I got soul but I'm not a soldier" |
