In beta there was guy who had 8 of them on his battleship.
And just now it is that CCP have realized that they are too popular!?!
Boy, somebody sure looks clueless.
Here is news for you ladies and gentlemen at CCP i have started training for jump drive operation. As soon as the modules are out i will have one.
Don't come crying to us how those modules are "too pupular" and then nerf them.
Make your decision now as the skill used for MWD or jump drive operation are useless for anything else and spending weeks to train them could have been spent on other skills that would actually have some importance.

Weeks?!? dang, you must have LOW attributes. Most people dont spend more than a few days at max on those skills.
Oh and i like the new MWD's - now people cant just run away from combat.

All CCP is doing is keeping the game fair for all. Not for just a few people. It was nice to have MWD without penalties but now it takes away from other aspects of the game. As the EvE economy and player population grows, to keep it fair for all restrictions and limits must be implemented. Im sure all this will pass. It has with the other patches and i know it will with this one.
The name's johnnyblaze ain't a damn thing changed. |

So just how does a 50% shield and 25% Capacitor penalty for using MWD make the game "Fair for all" ? In fact it just made it even harder for freelancers and small corps. Not only did they nerf the MWD but they also gave ALL Cruiser pirates webafiers. Now the ONLY way to mine is with 3-4 cruiser escort. This means freelancers and small corps effectively can not mine any decent ores. At least with MWD you could use 2 cruisers and keep a miner fairly safe and if you got in trouble you could at least escape with your ship. My maller now has 520 shields with MWD equipped. That is only 200 HP more than a damn frigate. Give me a break. Would not mind balance but 50% is just plain stupid. Especially with NPC pirates using heavy missles torps and cruise missles. CCP needs to learn that these kinds of changes need to be done in SMALL increments. These massive changes are bad for the overall game.

Heh, I'm sure the guy who put 8 MWDs on his battleship was just goofing off. =P

Actually that would be easier to fix. Make the effects NOT stack. Limit 1 per ship.

so Mindbender what would you suggest? Making it possible for 1 PC cruiser to take on multiple NPC Pirate cruisers and win?
Or maybe they should just save your time and give you the ISK.
And that 500 sheild should buy you PLENTY of time to use that MWD and run away, the speed boost didn't go down now did it?

MWDs still hold much use, infact I fail to see this influence any use I had for MWDs, for instance to get away in a tight spot. Your shield is most likely down or close to it anyway, that's usually why one runs away - so there is little consequence of shield decreasing with the usage of MWDs. ------------------------------------------------------------

The only major effect of this change is moving MWD's from "must haves" to "optional". If you want your cruiser to go ri-goddamn-diculously fast, then you'll accept the tradeoff between speed and armor.
Survivability = speed + protection. Before, MWD's boosted speed and (with rare drops) didn't do anything to protection. This meant that the survivability radically increased, making them must have modules. This additionally unbalanced various aspects of the game. CCP have fixed the balance. Cry me a river. ________________________________________________

Well I use(d) MWDs to escape from tricky NPC situations too - specifically those mutiple NPC engagements where the ****ing targetting recticule skips all over the place every fraction of a second and you end up with all your guns shooting at different damn enemies and not sure which one is which. CCP - PLEASE sort this out... I've ended up getting my arse (nearly) kicked in fights I should easily win because I am unable to bring all guns to bear on the same damn target. Cheers....

When i said weeks i meant for jump drive operation. It requires level 5 science, navigation and warp drive operation.
These skills aren't very usefull for anything else just like navigation and afterburner level 4 skills are not good for nothing else but MWD.
For God sake they had 1 year of beta and free month of retail to figure out balances.
It is totally unacceptable to start making our skill-time commitment useless now.
Problem that i see is that there is nobody whole day long on help channel and that people on these boards are nothing less but players from other games who got to be inexperieced moderators good only for locking treads.
They should have been more involved in game in the past, now and in the future.
They should not be so out of touch of reality as to not know that some stuff will be "so popular".
As I am writing this I can not get my map to work. This was problem while ago that was fixed and now is back again.
This is kind of issue CCP should be dealing with not "think" what is good for them.
So far they tried hard to make this game unplayable. What they don't understand that there will always be players who are more oriented to advance sooner than later.
Only way to prevent it is not to have game at all.
Anyway they should be more player oriented, keep in touch (perhaps invite players on personal interviews with developers and GMs) and keep it real as opposite as make illogical changes to game play .

meh, what is it with the whiners on these forums... the MWD nerf was good, balanced the game a lot, gave frigates back their speed advantage and made afterburners an option again. The size of this game makes it impossible to just balance everything perfect on the first try...its a work in progress and its getting better every patch.
Making no mistakes is what establishes the certainty of victory, for it means conquering an enemy that is already defeated. |

hehe.
nerfs come, and nerfs stay, and nerfs get accepted as the norm. The game goes on, players adapt and all is right with the world.

MWD is alright now. Not sure how it will be after upcoming patches.
It's possible that the reason there is no JumpDrive right now, is because they need to be balanced correctly. (HINT: BigMap navigation based on light years, light year limitations, 30 minute recharge rate). Originally by: Luka Liki Oh and i like the new MWD's - now people cant just run away from combat.

i agree totally, game is jsu getting to restrictive in what can be done, changing things to make it "fair for all" is just stupid, life! is not fair. people with have certain advantages over others.

The Devs have always shafted smaller corps and freelancers. Always have, always will.

Congrats Meowcat, that was exceptional work.
I think the point he is trying to raise is valid though. Nerfs come and go. Some stay and people adapt. People adapted to this MWD change, and they will adapt to the new one. If you wanted an 'old style' MWD now you would be slated as a carebear. I'd hazard a guess the same will eventually be true of our current MWDs.
Oh, and Zinke if your still here, do you stand by your choice to train jump drives? It's been a LONG wait.
